Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin said despite the ministry having introduced and implemented 73 initiatives throughout the 10 months in administration, she said the most important programme was the renewable and efficient energy initiative.

She said the ministry was expecting 20 per cent of the country’s energy to be generated from renewable sources by 2025, adding that the initiative was to increase the renewable energy mix in electricity supply, thus reducing consumption of fossil fuels, as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

“This is our new target. We have been producing greenhouse gasses and this is not good.

“Hence, we have created several new targets and policies to have better energy efficiency and to make use of renewable energy as a replacement for fossil fuels.

The Strait of Malacca off Singapore and Malaysia is not only a waterway linking supply from the Middle East, Africa and the U.S. to Asia, but has also been used in the past decade to store millions of barrels of oil for future sales. Now, with new ship-emission regulations taking effect in 2020, traders are using the channel to hoard fuels for which demand will boom.

June 13, 2019

My technical division will be hosting a visit on the 22nd July, 2019.

The Regasification Terminal Pengerang (RGTP) is under the purview of Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB), a public-listed company on Bursa Malaysia. PGB operates and maintains the offshore Regasification Terminal in Sungai Udang, Melaka (RGTSU) and the onshore Regasification Terminal in Pengerang, Johor (RGTP).

RGTP provides primary gas supply to RAPID, Pengerang Co-Generation Plant (PCP) and the Peninsular Gas Utilization (PGU) pipeline grid to augment the availability of gas in the country. RGTP offers Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) unloading and reloading, storage, handling and regasification.

The plant has a capacity of 3.5 mtpa (million-tonnes per annum) and began its commercial operation in 2017. The plant receives LNG vessels carrying LNG imported from around the world, store it in storage tanks and convert the LNG into gas, before injecting it into the PGU pipeline grid for distribution to customers.
