Uzma Bhd through its wholly-owned subsidiary Uzma Engineering Sdn. Bhd. secured a Work Order Award from PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd. for the Provision of a Risk Transfer Incentive Contract (RTIC) for Idle Wells Reactivation and Production Enhancement Services for Sabah assets.  

In a statement today the company said the contract duration is for three years beginning 13 July 2021 and ending on 12 July 2024 with an estimated contract value of RM29 mil.

The job scope of the contract involves deploying well intervention services to perform idle well reactivation activities at Offshore Sabah.

Malaysia’s Sarawak awards key onshore acreage

The eastern Malaysian state of Sarawak, home to the country’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) export complex, has awarded its first onshore block to Petra Energy and Uzma, as it hopes to revitalise its onshore oil and gas industry after taking regulatory control from the federal government.

Malaysia’s Petra Energy will operate Block SK433 on behalf of joint venture partner Uzma following the award by state-energy company Petroleum Sarawak (PETROS). Block SK433 covers the Miri-Marudi area in Northern Sarawak. It also holds a discovery, Adong Kecil.

In a statement Friday, the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said the award was the result of a competitive bidding exercise that was managed by PETROS since January this year.

The CMO said this marks a significant milestone for Sarawak as it looks forward to the resumption of active exploration and production activities onshore.

 The state government has endorsed the conditional award by state-owned Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) for Sarawak onshore block SK 433 to Petra Energy Development Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Petra Energy, and its joint venture partner, Uzma Engineering Sdn Bhd,  a wholly-owned subsidiary of Uzma Berhad.

In a statement today, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said the award is the result of a competitive bidding exercise that was managed by Petros since January this year.

The CMO said this is a significant milestone for Sarawak as it looks forward to the resumption of active exploration and production activities onshore.

Uzma names Abdullah Karim as chairman

Uzma Bhd has appointed its independent non-executive director Datuk Abdullah Karim as the group’s new independent chairman.

He replaces Datuk Seri Syed Ali Syed Abbas Alhabshee, who resigned after serving as independent chairman for over 10 years to pursue his personal interest.

Uzma said Abdullah is currently the chairman of the group’s nominating committee and member of the audit committee.

Landmark Opec deal fuels local O&G stocks

Oil and gas (O&G) stocks rallied yesterday after Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) agreed on Wednesday to cut output for the first time in eight years.

Among the gainers were Deleum Bhd, Dayang Enterprise Holdings Bhd, UMW Oil & Gas Corp Bhd, SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd and Uzma Bhd.

Leading the pack was Deleum, with the counter jumping 10.5 sen, or 12.8 per cent, to 92.5 sen, with 4.97 million shares traded.

Crude oil prices steadied around US$53 (RM236.90) a barrel yesterday, holding on to big gains made after Opec and Russia agreed to restrict production.

In the meeting, Opec members agreed to cut oil output by almost 1.2 million barrels per day from January to June next year.

Uzma Unfazed by Concerns Over Berantai, Balai RSC Cessations in Malaysia

Malaysia’s upstream oil and gas services company Uzma Berhad, holder of a minority stake in the Tanjung Baram oil field in Block SK307 offshore Sarawak, is unfazed by talks that the risk service contract (RSC) for the acreage might be cancelled amid cost rationalization initiative undertaken by the country’s national oil firm Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), local media The Star reported Saturday.

Such views were triggered recently after PETRONAS reached an agreement last month with the joint venture comprising Petrofac Energy Developments Sdn Bhd and SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad’s subsidiaries for the cessation of the Berantai RSC located in Block PM309 offshore Terengganu, Malaysia.

“The RSC’s cessation will allow PETRONAS to minimize the project’s long-term value erosion and optimize the development and production activities in Malaysia, in line with its efforts to reduce costs and increase the efficiency of its operations,” the Malaysian state-owned firm said in the July 11 press release.
