Landmark Opec deal fuels local O&G stocks

Oil and gas (O&G) stocks rallied yesterday after Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) agreed on Wednesday to cut output for the first time in eight years.

Among the gainers were Deleum Bhd, Dayang Enterprise Holdings Bhd, UMW Oil & Gas Corp Bhd, SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd and Uzma Bhd.

Leading the pack was Deleum, with the counter jumping 10.5 sen, or 12.8 per cent, to 92.5 sen, with 4.97 million shares traded.

Crude oil prices steadied around US$53 (RM236.90) a barrel yesterday, holding on to big gains made after Opec and Russia agreed to restrict production.

In the meeting, Opec members agreed to cut oil output by almost 1.2 million barrels per day from January to June next year.

Oil and gas service providers cannot afford to be ‘choosy’, says UMW chief

UMW Oil & Gas Corp Bhd’s (UMW O&G) chief said support service providers in the industry could not afford to be “choosy” as lower crude oil prices led to fewer contracts in the market.

UMW O&G president Rohaizad Darus said the number of contracts available had declined by 30% compared to a year earlier.

“Service providers in the oil and gas industry now cannot be choosy about the work they take,” Rohaizad told reporters after UMW O&G’s annual general meeting here today.

Malaysia’s UMW Oil & Gas sets tight IPO bookbuilding range

UMW Oil & Gas Corp Bhd , a Malaysian offshore and drilling services firm, set a tight IPO bookbuilding range of thanks to strong demand from cornerstone investors, a source with direct knowledge of the process told Reuters on Wednesday.

This values the IPO at up to 2.36 billion ringgit ($729.63 million), the largest in Malaysia so far this year. This IPO comes on top of the $680 million flotation by Westports Holdings Bhd, operator of the country’s busiest port.
