Saturday Star 2009-11-14 – Job Opportunities

November 16, 2009

First off, if you need my help to submit your CVs, donate to the blog, and I’ll review your CV to see if it is worthy of my (and my associates’) expectations. If you can’t figure out how to donate, you are definitely Cylon fodder.

  • Synergy is looking for safety engineers. Visit the Synergy websites (Jakarta and KL) for contact details.
  • Qatar Petroleum is recruiting. Jobs are available for Snr Eng (Electrical) & Lead Eng (Electical). The rest are technician posts. Apply here.
  • Nippon Oil Exploration (Malaysia) Ltd (NOEX) asks, “Do you want to be part of a sustainable energy initiative for the future?” If so, there are positions for a Project Manager, Contract Enginer and QA/QC Engineer. Snail mail to Human Resource Section NIPPON OIL EXPLORATION (MALAYSIA) LTD, Lot 1168, 3rd Floor, Wisma Interhill, Miri Waterfront Commercial Centre, 98000 Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia before 18th Dec, 2009.
  • Here’s an interesting one. Smith International Inc. is looking for Field Engineers (KL/Labuan based). They say that their ‘D&E unit provides a comprehensive range of products including Well Bore Departure/Rotating Control Device…’ Apply here.
  • Another interesting one. Proserv Offshore’s business is focussed on four main areas of expertise: Decommissioning Contractors & Engineers, Abandonment Services, Subsea & Marine Technology, High & Ultra High Pressure Pump services (I guess these aren’t the guys who supply Proserve sampling systems). Looks like this company is coming in on the crest of a boom. They’re looking for a project engineer & operation / project manager. Apply here.

From the Star – Govt to Pay Royalty to Kelantan

November 15, 2009

From the Star, dateline 2009-11-10:

A Kelantan state executive councilor said the Federal Government was obliged to pay cash to petroleum producing states and not just in the form of a compassionate fund (wang ehsan).

Datuk Husam Musa said this was according to Clause 4 of the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1975.

Shout Out – Talk on Intellectual Property

November 14, 2009

This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division will be having a talk on 16th November, 2009. It’ll be at 5:30 pm (makan-makan at 5:00) at Wisma IEM. That’s right people, as part of the new health drive you are required to walk up 3 flights of stairs to get your 2 CPD points.

In the course of their work, engineers may have to face many issues related to Intellectual Property (IP) rights. They may even have generated their own IP that requires protection. In this talk, the main speaker, Mr. Rozlan Khuen will dwell with issues such as the definition of IP, need to protect IP and how to determine if someone is infringing someone else’s e IP.

If you work for a big multinational, I suggest if you have a brilliant idea, work on it in your own time, outside office hours, away from the office. ‘Course, if you have a money making idea, your owner… I mean employer will say that you were inspired by the work the slave driver… I mean company provided, hence they own your gluteus maximus, and any money derived thereof. The speaker can prove me wrong, though.

The above will be presented by Mr. Ng Khuen Wee (Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and a MBA Graduate from the University of Malaya where he majored in International Business and Corporate Finance) and Ir. Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Raman (Associate Professor at the Chemical Engineering Department, University of Malaya. He started his career with Dowell Schlumberger and moved around as a process engineer with Golden Hope and later with Nestle until 1993 where he joined University of Malaya as a lecturer).

Fliers for the above and other events may be obtained here. A map to Wisma IEM is presented here. It’s the building identified as ‘Puteri Nursing College.’

Marketing Rounds – Visit to MLNG

November 11, 2009

As part of Synergy’s ongoing mission to boldly go where no one has gone before, we recently visited MLNG in Bintulu, as guests of MECIP. We thank them for providing us a forum in which to present our talents in providing specialist process support to MECIP’s downstream expertise.

The SOGE Office – Full to the Brim

November 10, 2009

Another Photosynth view of the office. We’re getting a bit more fuller, and I suppose we have enough money to pay for the rent and the lights. We’d like some more work during these trying times.

Malaysia – President Of International Gas Union

October 17, 2009

Taken from the pages of the Star, dateline 2009-10-11:

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has taken over the presidency of the International Gas Union (IGU) with Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Hashim of PETRONAS filling the top post until 2012.

Dr Abdul Rahim, who is PETRONAS’ research technology vice-president, is also Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) president.

For those of you not in the know, Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahim was VP, Gas Business Unit, PETRONAS.

What does the IGU do, you wonder? From the IGU’s web pages, it’s objective is to “promote the technical and economic progress of the gas industry.”
