Another week, another scan of the Saturday Star newspaper. Here’s a list of job ads in the paper:
Sigh, since I have moved with Synergy out of KL, will you patronise Chee Meng in my memory? Or invite me to meetings around Bukit Bintang at lunchtime? Is he doing packet specials?
And visit the Dilbert site for some real life O&G experiences.
As I travel round visiting potential and ongoing clients, I am heartened to see that some of them give back something to the Malaysian engineering community. Here’s a sign I found in Kerteh, Terengganu.
Thank you, MECIP in supporting the IEM. If you would like to continue supporting SOGE, even better.
For those who keep on asking, “How do I enter the Oil & Gas industry?” Go visit OGA 2009, and find out just how big it is. You can ask questions over there. This year’s quota of booth babes has gone up as well.
This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division will be having a talk on the 11th June. It’ll be at 5:30 pm (makan-makan at 5:00) at Wisma IEM. That’s right people, as part of the new health drive you are required to walk up 3 flights of stairs to get your 2 CPD points.
The talk is aimed to introduce to the participants the logical “thinking tools” that they can use in standalone situations or together as a coherent problem solving effort on the real life issues. They will generate effective and impactful actions that can put the organization in its path to successful strategic planning.
Sounds right up my path, I’m into tactical planning at the moment.

Something a bit different from line lists and NPSH calcs, eh?

And that’s it.
Here’s an example where energy is being wasted to cool down the air at UMMC. The white insulation at the bottom of the picture is ice build up on the line. The vessels store liquid nitrogen.
Hmm, looking at the picture, I’m not sure which side is the refrigeration loop, and which is the product loop. I suppose the opns unit on the left is a heat exchanger, and the ice is forming on the nitrogen product line
You figure it out.
I went to Kerteh on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2009, taking Firefly as I thought it would be the less time consuming and more comfortable.
Bad move.
The flight returning that night was canceled. Rumour had it that before the cancellation, the flight was delayed such that if it came to Kerteh it would be too dark to be allowed to take off again (I assume this is about 8pm). You can imagine the agonies of the passengers when told they were rescheduled on the next morning’s flight.
I took off to the Awana Kijal and it being the school holidays only the more expensive rooms were available. At Rm375/pop, arriving at 9pm and leaving at 6:40am, this is not one of the best ways to spend my company’s money.
Firefly said they would reimburse the costs of hotels, transport incurred due to this situation. I won’t be holding my breath.
Update 2009-06-04: Firefly rep called me today, and said that they were processing my claims. And oh, you know the rumour I had mentioned previously? Take it as fact, was confirmed during my chat with the rep. Again, not holding my breath on claims.
