MURPHY OIL CORPORATION ANNOUNCES FIRST OIL AT SIAKAP NORTH-PETAI AND UPDATES PROGRESS AT DALMATIAN

Murphy Oil Corporation MUR -0.03% announced today that first oil production from the Siakap North-Petai (SNP) development offshore Malaysia commenced on February 27, 2014.

The SNP field, operated by Murphy with a 32 percent working interest, is located offshore Malaysia in a water depth of approximately 4,400 feet. The overall field development plan consists of eight producing wells and five water injection wells developed as a subsea tie-back to the Kikeh Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. Initial operations commenced with production from four oil wells. Peak gross production from the field is expected to reach 35,000 barrels of oil per day in mid-2014. The unitized field combines the discoveries at Siakap North in Block K with Petai in the adjacent Block G. Murphy’s partners in the development are PETRONAS Carigali, Shell, and ConocoPhillips COP +0.18% with the latter two partners each holding a 21 percent working interest.

 


ExxonMobil Announces First Production From Damar Gas Development

Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) today announced the start of natural gas production at the Damar field off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. ExxonMobil subsidiary, ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc., has a 50 percent interest in the project.

The Damar field has a projected capacity of 200 million cubic feet of gas per day. ExxonMobil and joint-venture partner Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd. have planned a total of 16 development wells for the platform.

TH Heavy Engineering Berhad, a Malaysia-based engineering and marine contractor, revealed Wednesday that its subsidiary, THHE Fabricators Sdn. Bhd. (TFSB) has received a Letter of Award from Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) Jan. 28 for the supply of a topside for the Kinabalu Non-Associated Gas (NAG) Development Project in Malaysia, the firm said in an announcement on local stock exchange Bursa Malaysia .

Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd has awarded a five-year umbrella contract to four local engineering services contractors to undertake the design and engineering services for its facilities involved in the oil and gas industry.

Petronas Carigali, which is Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s upstream unit, said on Tuesday the four companies were Technip Consultant (M) Sdn BhdPerunding Ranhill Worley Sdn BhdRNZ Integrated (M) Sdn Bhd and MMC Oil & Gas Engineering Sdn Bhd.


GDF Suez joins Malaysian natural gas venture

A global affairs official at French energy company GDF Suez said entering a joint venture working in deep Malaysian waters anchors its regional position.

The French company said Thursday it joined Malaysian energy company Petronas and Japanese energy company JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration in Block 3F in deep Malaysian waters.

“GDF Suez reinforces its positioning in Asia-Pacific, a most promising region, through this new acquisition in exploration-production activities in Malaysia,” Jean-Marie Dauger, a vice president in charge of the global gas business, said in a statement.


First Oil Commences at Balai Field in Balai Cluster RSC offshore Sarawak

Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) announced Sunday that oil production from the Balai field in the Balai Cluster Risk Service Contract (RSC) area offshore Sarawak, Malaysia has commenced Nov. 6.

The field’s first oil was achieved utilizing an early production vessel (EPV) as a part of the RSC area’s extended well testing (EWT) program.

The Balai Cluster RSC was awarded in August 2011 to BC Petroleum Sdn Bhd, a partnership between Roc Oil (Malaysia) Pty Ltd, Dialog D & P Sdn Bhd and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd. It is the second RSC that has successfully achieved oil production after the Berantai gas field.


Malaysia’s North Malay Basin project to start gas production by end 2013

Production from the first phase of the $5.2 billion North Malay Basin project, which envisages development and commercialization of nine stranded gas fields offshore Terengganu in Peninsular Malaysia, is scheduled to begin by the end of 2013.

“The early production system phase will be ready by the end of 2013 and the full field development phase will be ready in 2017,” a spokesman with Malaysia’s national oil and gas company Petronas said in an email.

Petronas’ upstream arm, Petronas Carigali, and the Malaysian subsidiary of US-based Hess in June 2012 signed three production sharing contracts, paving the way for the implementation of the North Malay Basin project. The three PSCs, in which Petronas Carigali and Hess have an equal 50% stake, are for blocks PM302, PM325 and PM326b.


Tapis EOR project will start production in 2014

The Tapis Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) project is moving a step closer to production with the significant completion of the main central processing facility called Tapis-R topsides.

The project will see the oil production from the ageing Tapis field increase from the current estimated 5,000 barrels per day to a maximum output of 25,000-35,000 barrels per day (bpd) by 2017.

The EOR is a 50:50 participation between ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Malaysia Inc (EMEPMI) and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB).

 


Shell invests RM3.2b in Malaysia

Shell Malaysia has reiterated its confidence to invest US$1 billion (RM3.22 billion) in fixed investments in the Malaysian oil and gas (O&G) industry, providing employment to over 6,500 people, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said.

“I just had a discussion with the Shell leadership including Shell’s group CEO and they have expressed confidence in the country and will continue to invest in the country, he told newsmen after delivering a keynote address at the Shell Malaysia Innovation Summit in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

A key project that Shell is working on is the Gumusut Kakap, a deepwater field which Shell is developing with Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, ConocoPhillips and Murphy. When it goes into full production, it is expected to contribute 20% to 25% of Malaysia’s oil production, with design capacity of 150,000 barrels per day.

 


Petronas Carigali sets up new subsidiary to focus on small, marginal fields

Petronas Carigali, the upstream arm of Malaysia’s state-owned Petronas, has set up a subsidiary, Vestigo Petroleum, to focus on the development of small, marginal and mature fields in Malaysia and overseas, Petronas said Monday.

Vestigo aims to optimize production from clusters of small, marginal and mature fields through operational, technical and cost effective methods while its parent Petronas Carigali will continue to explore and develop larger and more technically complex fields, the company said in a statement.
