BC Petroleum Gets Nods to Develop Bentara Oil Field Offshore Sarawak

Roc Oil Company Limited (ROC), announced Tuesday that BC Petroleum Sdn Bhd (BCP) the 48 percent owned company incorporated to operate and manage the Balai Cluster Risk Service Contract (RSC), has received approval of the FDP (field development plan) from Petronas for the initial phase in the development of the Bentara Oil Field within the Balai Cluster offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.

Commenting on the FDP approval ROC’s CEO Alan Linn said: “Approval for the initial phase of the Bentara oil development is a direct outcome of the risk managed and staged pre development approach implemented by BCP to appraise and accelerate oil production from the Balai Cluster. In the process, we have also identified additional potential within the cluster area and will be proposing further study and appraisal activity in support of the next stage of potential development from Bentara and associated fields”.


First Oil Commences at Balai Field in Balai Cluster RSC offshore Sarawak

Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) announced Sunday that oil production from the Balai field in the Balai Cluster Risk Service Contract (RSC) area offshore Sarawak, Malaysia has commenced Nov. 6.

The field’s first oil was achieved utilizing an early production vessel (EPV) as a part of the RSC area’s extended well testing (EWT) program.

The Balai Cluster RSC was awarded in August 2011 to BC Petroleum Sdn Bhd, a partnership between Roc Oil (Malaysia) Pty Ltd, Dialog D & P Sdn Bhd and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd. It is the second RSC that has successfully achieved oil production after the Berantai gas field.


Appraisal drilling starts offshore Malaysia at Balai Cluster

BC Petroleum Sdn Bhd has begun the pre-development phase appraisal drilling on the Balai Cluster risk service contract offshore Malaysia.

The first well, Bentara 2 in Bentara field is underway with a planned TD of 2,750 m (9,022 ft).

The Balai Cluster RSC consists of four fields: Balai, Bentara, West Acis, and Spaoh. The pre-development phase is expected to be completed by Q2 2013.

On successful completion of the pre-development phase and agreement on the economic viability of the fields, BCP will submit a field development plan.

BC Petroleum Sdn Bhd will invest up to RM2.55 billion in the small field risk service project of the Balai Cluster Field, offshore Sarawak.

The project, which will be carried out in two phases, is awarded by Petronas.

BC Petroleum is a joint-venture company between Roc Oil Malaysia (Holdings) Sdn Bhd, Dialog D&P Sdn Bhd and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd.

The project is projected to contribute RM4.95 billion to the country’s gross national income (GNI) and create 53 jobs by 2020.
