Mubadala Discovers Gas Field Off Malaysia

Mubadala Energy and its partners have announced a new gas discovery offshore Malaysia via the Cengkih-1 exploration well in Block SK 320. The exploration well was drilled to a total depth of 1680 m and encountered a 110-m gas column in the Miocene Cycle IV/V pinnacle carbonate reservoirs. The Cengkih-1 well is located nearly 220 km off the Bintulu coast in Sarawak.

The discovery is near the Pegaga gas field, also located within Block SK 320. Mubadala Energy and its partners began production from the Pegaga field in March 2022.


Mubadala makes gas find off Malaysia

UAE-based Mubadala Petroleum and its partners Shell and Malaysia’s Petronas have made a sizable natural gas discovery at Block SK320 off the coast of Bintulu, Sarawak, in Malaysia, Petronas said on September 20.

The discovery was made with a well drilled to a depth of 1,680 metres. The well encountered a gas column more than 110 metres in length, in good-quality carbonate reservoirs.

Mubadala operates the block with a 55% stake, while Petronas has 25% and Shell has 20%.

In a statement, Petronas said the find added to “a string of exploration successes in the Central Luconia region,” and confirmed the “large potential” of the region’s carbonate play.


Fresh gas discovery off Malaysia

Abu Dhabi-headquartered oil and gas company Mubadala Energy (former Mubadala Petroleum) has made a new gas discovery in Block SK 320, offshore Malaysia.

This block is operated by Mubadala Energy, which changed its name from Mubadala Petroleum earlier this month in line with its 2030 strategy to play “a key role” in the energy transition while expanding across the gas value chain and exploring investment opportunities in new energy sectors such as blue hydrogen and carbon capture.


Mubadala Petroleum starts gas production from Malaysia’s Pegaga field

Abu Dhabi-headquartered Mubadala Petroleum has successfully started gas production from the Pegaga gas field in Block SK 320, offshore Malaysia. In 2014, the company reported that it had found substantial gas resources in the gas field.

The Pegaga gas field is designed for gas throughput of 550 million standard cubic feet of gas per day plus condensate. The produced gas will be evacuated through a new 4km, 38-inch subsea pipeline tying into an existing offshore gas network and subsequently to the onshore Petronas LNG Complex in Bintulu.


Sapura Energy bags contract from Mudabala Petroleum

Sapura Energy Bhd secured a contract from Mubadala Petroleum to undertake engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) works for the Pegaga gas development field in Block SK320, offshore Sarawak.

The contract was awarded to its wholly owned subsidiary, Sapura Fabrication Sdn Bhd by Mubadala Petroleum following the Final Investment Decision by Mubadala Petroleum and its partners Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) and Sarawak Shell Bhd.

“This is our sixth contract win since the beginning of the year. It’s a good start for us. We are proud to be working with a highly respected company such as Mubadala Petroleum and supporting its first development in Malaysia,” said Sapura Energy president and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin.

Sapura Energy views the increased capital spending by oil and gas firms is an indication that the industry is making a gradual shift towards better times amidst renewed optimism.


Mubadala advances $1 billion Malaysia Pegaga gas field project

Mubadala Petroleum, Petronas and Royal Dutch Shell will spend more than $1 billion to develop Malaysia’s Pegaga gas field, aiming to produce gas by the third quarter of 2021, Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala said on Wednesday.

The project in Block SK320, located in the Central Luconia province, offshore the East Malaysian state of Sarawak, will now proceed to the construction and installation stage, the company said in a statement.

Mubadala is the operator of the block with a 55 percent share while Petronas Carigali holds a 25 percent interest and Sarawak Shell holds 20 percent.

Mubadala Petroleum reports that appraisal drilling and testing has confirmed the Pegaga discovery in Block SK320 offshore Malaysia as a substantial gas find with significant commercial potential.

A third discovery, Sirih-1, has also been confirmed from the 2013/14 exploration drilling program that has targeted a series of carbonate pinnacles within Block SK320. This adds to the Pegaga-1 and Sintok-1 discoveries announced previously, and the existing M5 discovery which Mubadala Petroleum successful appraised in 2012.

Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Petroleum on Monday said it made a new gas discovery with significant commercial potential in Malaysia, its fourth discovery within its operating block.

Mubadala Petroleum, a unit of Abu Dhabi’s investment fund Mubadala said it found substantial gas in the Pegaga well in its operating block SK320.

The four gas discoveries are in close proximity, including the original M-5 well success, Mubadala said in a statement.

“Together these discoveries represent a very significant hydrocarbon resource, with the potential for a commercially attractive, integrated development,” Maurizio La Noce, chief executive of Mubadala Petroleum, said in the statement.
