PETRONAS Carigali discovers more oil reserves in Bertam, says PM

Dateline 2012-10-30:

 Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today announced that PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd and Lundin Oil have jointly discovered additional oil reserves, under a production-sharing contract (PSC), at Block PM 307 of the Bertam oilfield.

He said the oil field, located 160 kilometres offshore Peninsula Malaysia, is opposite the state of Pahang at the depth of 76 metres.

PM 307 PSC is operated by Lundin Malaysia which holds a 75 per cent interest and Petronas holds the remaining equity.

Lundin Petroleum Discovers Oil Offshore Malaysia

Dateline 2011-11-23:

(Lundin Petroleum) is pleased to announce that it has discovered oil in the Janglau-1 well that was drilled in Block PM308A, offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

Janglau-1 was drilled to a total depth of 3,820 metres by the jackup rig “Offshore Courageous”. The objectives of the well were Oligocene intra-rift sands and the underlying fractured pre-Tertiary section.

During drilling below 3,153 metres, oil was found in multiple pay sand units in an intra-rift sand/shale section that extended over a gross interval of approximately 300 metres. Oil samples were recovered at surface during drilling.

From Reuters – Petronas awards 2 offshore blocks to Lundin

Hmm, Nio Petroleum seems to be a new O&G player in Malaysia. Anyone know where their Malaysian office is? And ‘The contractors minimum commitment is US$8 million’? What, are they only going to drill half a well? You can’t by a compressor for that amount of money.

Dateline 2010-05-19: Taken from Reuters:

Malaysian state oil company PETRONAS said today it had awarded two oil exploration blocks offshore Sabah to Sweden’s Lundin and Nio Petroleum.

Blocks SB307 and SB308 measure approximately 6,230 sq km and are located in water depths of up to 70 metres. Both blocks have been explored since 1965, Petronas said in a statement.

Lundin will own 42.5 per cent and operate both blocks, Nio will have 42.5 per cent and PETRONAS Carigali will own 15 per cent.

The contractors minimum commitment is US$8 million, Petronas said.
