Malaysia’s Petronas plans to scale up a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project as part of the second phase of development at the Kasawari gas field off Sarawak, its CEO said.

That’s an interesting plan. Sounds like a megaproject. If we can tumpang ASCOPE, we can have a very large grid.

The Laos-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project, too, has moved ahead. Under the scheme, participating countries have committed to sending electricity from Laos to Singapore and Malaysia, with Thailand acting as a transit country.

Petronas needs new direction to survive climate change, says MP

October 8, 2021

Again, PETRONAS, Petrlouem Development Act? This is like saying PROTON needs to pivat towards mass transport, and gomen will subsidise them… wait. Or maybe Malaysian Airlines needs to pivot toward hospitaliy services, and gomen will subsidise them.. wait.

Dateline 2021-09-29, FMT:

State energy firm Petronas has to change its business model to survive in the coming decades due to climate change.

Petronas’ subsidiaries to benefit from hydrogen production

October 5, 2021

Y’know, PETRONAS was a creation of The Petroluem Development Act. I suggest they stick to it, and the gomen pass the Hydrogen Devepment Act, the Renewable Energy Development Act, and let the O&G industry look after its own. Or risk having a company too big to fail (sound familiar, UK and China?)

Dateline 2021-09-23, The Edge:

Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (Petronas) subsidiaries, such as Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd and Petronas Gas Bhd, are well positioned to begin investing in natural gas-to-hydrogen production, which could diversify their revenue stream, said AmInvestment Bank.

In a research note today, the investment bank said support providers such as Dialog Group Bhd — which has built liquefied natural gas terminals in Pengerang and provided specialist and plant maintenance services — may also be able to take part in the value chain as Petronas ventures into the hydrogen market.
