Eye on stock – Barakah Offshore

February 11, 2014

Dateline 2013-12-14, The Star:

AN oil and gas stock which has got the market all excited since its debut on Nov 6 would be Barakah Offshore Petroleum Bhd. Not only has its stock price done well (it’s up 2.4 times to RM1.56 from its offer price of 65 sen), but it has also won a Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) contract less than two months after its listing.

While trading in Barakah remains suspended as at press time, the stock will likely see further action when trading reopens.

Happy Visit KB day.

Buy my recommendations, or through my Amazon store. Where are those corporate sponsors? Or throw donations at me. I need RM360 to get The Star ePaper

  • I’m looking for a senior process engineer, 7+ years experience. Send your cv here. Also looking for technical safety persons, metering / measurement engineers and other seniors you think will catch my eye.
  • ExxonMobil is looking for a fresh meat. Chemical Engineers, Safety Facilities Engineer, Control Applications Engineer, Instrument Engineer, Real Time Optimization Engineer, Mechanical Engineer. Visit here if you are interested.
  • Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Company (KPOC to friends) has a two-page spread. Anyhow, the posts that they hope to fill are too numerous to name. Apply here, or snail mail to: Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Comp Sdn Bhd, Level 52, Tower 2, PETRONAS Twin Towers, KLCC, 50088 KL, Malaysia. Is the sudden surge of posts due to KPOC subtlety telling their existing staff “take a pay cut, or we’ll get fresh meat”? Hah, if you send snail mail, they want you to “indicate the position title at the top of the left corner of the envelope.” I’ll sell you copies of the print advertisement page at RM10/column.

Support your local bookshop!  Bookalicious at The Summit Subang is a good choice. I think they focus on trilogies, quadrilogies, and other ologies. Tell them I sent you, and enjoy the look of perplexity on their faces. Those of you who have dropped my name, thanks!

This week, my theme is, you need to be a better all round engineer. Hence, some selections for the process engineer:

Extract from “The Young Turks of PETRONAS”

February 9, 2014

Describing beginner’s fog:

“Muslim staffers were frequently worried when they first heard that “intelligent pigs” were used to clean dirty or clogged pipelines. The intelligent pigs turned out to be steel brushes with sensors attached to them; they were regularly inserted into the pipeline to force out any debris that had settled in it. At the beginning these peculiarities had the Task Force in stitches but on many occasions at the later stages it actually knocked them over the barrels instead!”

A Kuching DCA regional office III spokesman stressed that any development on the incident, such as whether or not the helicopter owned by MHS Aviation Berhad had been successfully lifted out of the sea as claimed by an unofficial source here, could only be confirmed by the director general.

“The official statement will only be issued when the report is sent to the DCA’s headquarters.

“Kuching DCA is also not at liberty to issue any statement as the case has been classified as a government secret,” he told Bernama yesterday.

February 5, 2014

Dateline 2013-12-13, The Star:

At the same time, the Government has introduced the liquefied natural gas price of RM41.68/mmbtu for gas volumes above 1,000 million standard cu ft per day (mmscfd) consumed by Tenaga Nasional Bhd. This led to an increase in the average electricity tariff in Peninsular Malaysia.
