A Request- Donations for Ramadhan 2023

March 10, 2023

Zayd ibn Khalid reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever helps break the fast of a fasting person, he will have the same reward as him without decreasing anything from the reward of the fasting person.” (al-Tirmidhi)

Please give generously before and during this fasting month. If you need a cause to support, I have one.

My parents are involved with Rumah Seri Kenangan Cheras, a senior citizen care center. It has the stated objective of “Memberi jagaan, rawatan dan perlindungan kepada warga emas yang daif demi menjamin kesejahteraan dan kualiti hidup mereka.” (unofficial translation: provide care, treatment and shelter for impoverished senior citizens to guarantee their quality of life). This year, they are looking for donations to give the residents cheer by providing them an additional something for breaking fast. For 29 days, for 220 residents, at least RM4180 is requested. This ends up being RM0.65 per resident per day.

They (and I) look forward to you giving generously. May I suggest the value of lunches you give up during Ramadhan, or your daily shot of caffeine?

Reference to the home can be seen at https://rumahserikenangancheras.blogspot.com/p/mengenai-rsk-cheras.html, https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064359112542, http://www.jbsn.gov.my/berita-jbs-negeri-selangor/program-kami-prihatin-rumah-seri-kenangan-cheras-rskc.html.

At the time of writing, I don’t have their banking details yet. If you believe that, in this at least, I am trustworthy, you can pass the donation to me. I may match one to one donation as well.

Another year of uncertainty ahead for O&G sector

March 10, 2023

Didn’t I publish a previous article about being upbeat?

Dateline 2023-01-03, Malaysian Reserve:

THE oil and gas (O&G) sector is expected to run into twin headwinds this year, characterised by the volatility in the energy market and the slowdown of the global economy.

Oil prices were steady and closed higher last Friday, ending 2022 on a gain despite concerns due to weakening demand from top crude importer China and the growing risk of a global recession. This marked a second straight annual gain in a volatile year marked by tight supplies because of the Ukraine war and China’s lockdowns.

One bright spot for Malaysia is Petroleum Nasional Bhd (Petronas) and the overall positive sentiment towards

its activities for 2023-2025, as well as the national oil giant’s third-quarter net profit which almost doubled to RM30.8 billion from the RM16.3 billion reported in 2021.

March 9, 2023

Dateline 2022-12-27, Paul Tan:

Vehicle engine capacity data from the road transport department (JPJ) will be among the resources used by the Malaysian government in the creation of the targeted fuel subsidy mechanism in order to determine which users are eligible for the future targeted fuel subsidy which is almost ready, reported Bernama.

According to domestic trade and cost of living minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, the ministry has discussed the matter with the ministry of finance, the economy minister Rafizi Ramli and the JPJ, according to the report.

“In terms of the data, they are almost ready to be forwarded to the prime minister on how we can implement this targeted subsidy,” Salahuddin said, adding that the JPJ database can identify those who are eligible for the targeted subsidy based on the engine capacity of the vehicle they own.

Two Aker Engineering officials acquitted as High Court rules charges defective

March 7, 2023

Dateline 2022-12-23, The Edge:

The High Court on Friday (Dec 23) allowed the discharge and acquittal of two senior executives of Aker Engineering Malaysia from the respective charge they faced under the Companies Act 2016 and the Penal Code.

In allowing the striking-out application, judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin ruled that the charges brought against the company’s senior deputy president Ahmad Hatta Kamaruzzaman and director Mohd Yusof Ab Rahman, while not mala fide (made in bad faith), were defective.

In the case of Ahmad Hatta, 51, who was charged with misleading the Registrar of Companies, the judge said this was not a crime and that the prosecution was confused by the provisions of the Companies Act 2016.

Petrol station takes months to fully operate after flood – PDAM

March 3, 2023

Has PDAM ever sent out press reports that are optimistic?

Dateline 2022-12-24, Malaysian Reserve:

SEVERAL petrol stations in the states that are badly affected by the flood have to undergo few processes on the closure of the premises as well as to resume their operations after the flood has receded.

Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM) president Datuk Khairul Annuar Abdul Aziz said the petrol dealers must ensure all discharge points at their petrol stations are safely sealed during the flood.

“The dealers need to report to oil companies on the station closure as well as to brief them on the (flood) situation.

“Oil companies will then prompt the oil terminal (storage for oil) to stop sending fuel supply to the stations until further notice…the staff will continuously communicate with dealers on current flood status,” he told Bernama when asked on the process of petrol station closure during the flood.

Enhancing Malaysia’s renewable energy sector

March 2, 2023

Dateline 2022-12-XX, The Star:

WITH a growing global commitment towards net-zero emissions of global warming gases and increasing awareness of sustainable finance, Bursa Malaysia recently launched Malaysia’s first voluntary carbon market, the Bursa Carbon Exchange.

While leveraging the private sector’s growing ESG (environment, social, governance) commitments is a great start, more can be done to mobilise private finances in a net-zero transition – particularly in the energy sector, which underpins virtually all economic activities in the country.

The Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) market allows energy users to pay a premium per kWh (kilowatt-hour) of electricity produced through low carbon sources; this is a great mechanism to realise greater private finances in accelerating the deployment of renewables.
