First off, if you need my help to submit your CVs, donate to the blog, and I’ll review your CV to see if it is worthy of my (and my associates’) expectations. If you can’t figure out how to donate, you are definitely Cylon fodder.
- Optimal (tagline Optimise your Career Potential) is looking for a Reliability Engineer. Hmmm, do you Kertehians want to apply? Visit their website, or apply here.
- Our favourite Saudi recruiter, SABIC, is at it again, looking for Project Managers and Senior Project Engineers. You can apply via email here.
No makan-makan comments this week, I’m afraid. Cheap and cheerful, Subang Square Business Center place are (channeling Yoda this week).

Dropping by at the Kompleks Operasi Petronas (KOP) on Sunday, 11th Oct, 2009 (yes, I do work on Sundays), I noticed that PCSB has quite the community spirit.

ExxonMobil Malaysia is usually top notch when it comes to posters, presentations and all other pictorial forms of communication. That why this poster amuses me so much:

Let’s see now, on average I travel 60km a day, yet using the recommended grade of motor oil, I can gain up to 250 miles (400 km) per day. Why isn’t my tank overflowing with the 340km worth of petrol I can gain per day? Or is this based on someone who travels 20,000 km per day?

- Carigali Hess is looking for a Reservoir Engineer, Petroleum Engineer. Email to mselvamaithan@carigalihess.com, indicating position applied for as subject of the email. Now you wonder, did Wata supply the right titles?
- Nippon Oil Exploration (Malaysia) Ltd (NOEX) asks, “Do you want to be part of a sustainable energy initiative for the future?” If so, there’s a position of Manager, HR & Admin open. Snail mail to Human Resource Section NIPPON OIL EXPLORATION (MALAYSIA) LTD, Lot 1168, 3rd Floor, Wisma Interhill, Miri Waterfront Commercial Centre, 98000 Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia before the 20th.
My eating recommendation for the week will be Restoran Tong Juan Seafood. For those who have ever worked in the O&G industry on the East Coast of Malaysia would have gone there sometime, usual after thinking ‘Where is there to eat around here?’ Of course, you would also have visited Hai Peng as well

As I go on my marketing rounds, I went and visited Dato’ R. We went quaffing and dungeon crawling … nope wrong blog. I gotta stop playing Nethack.
Anyhow, he shared with me that he and his team has installed electrical submersible pumps (ESPs) in a Malaysian operations environment. The units are installed using CTUs as opposed to drilling rigs (to the workover engineers among you, can you explain why this is important?). The ESPs are Western Submersible Pumps.
Gaslift now has competion. Some of the ESP advantages I can think of are:
- less compression capacity is required, as the volume of recirculated gas is reduced.
- Improved controllability: flowrate only depends on pump perfomance curves, rather than say, compressor availability.
- Mature Tech: someone count how many ESPs are in Acheh.
Though I think that use of ESPs indicate that Malaysian fields are acknowledged to be on the decline.
