Leighton Offshore has officially launched a new engineering business in Malaysia. DPS Leighton Engineering Sdn Bhd (LE), a fully owned PMC subsidiary of Leighton Offshore, provides engineering and PMC solutions for Leighton’s international EPCIC and LOFS business.

Leighton’s detailed engineering and PMC arm has grown from the former oil and gas engineering consulting business of DPS Bristol (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, which was acquired by Leighton.

LE will also be providing technical, procurement and management support to DPS Consultant Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which provides oil and gas consultancy services in Malaysia.

EMEPMI – More Stringent Call Screening

It looks like ExxonMobil’s keepers of the telephonic gates have had upgraded instructions. They will no longer give out extension numbers of people in the building, and I think they don’t let you talk to someone if you don’t know their number. Talk about brick walls.

I need to incorporate these procedures in my company.

From Jakarta Globe – Malaysia’s PETRONAS Profit Up 54.3 Percent

Dateline 2011-12-02:

Malaysian state energy firm Petronas said on Thursday that its second-quarter net profit increased 54.3 percent from the year-earlier period, boosted by higher crude oil prices.

Petronas said in a statement that its profit for the three months ending Sept. 30 was 18.35 billion ringgit ($5.84 billion), up from 11.89 billion ringgit in the same quarter last year.

Revenue for the company, Malaysia’s only Fortune 500 firm, also increased 26.0 percent in the quarter to 71.83 billion ringgit year-on-year despite a “challenging” economic environment, it said.

KKB Engineering Bhd (KKB) is on track to some possible oil and gas (O&G) related contracts in the pipeline as the company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Brooke Dockyard & Engineering Works Corporation (Brooke Dockyard) to set out its intention and mutual understanding in connection with a proposed strategic alliance and joint-venture.

The collaboration includes a lease of the deepwater river front yard by KKB to Brooke Dockyard for its O&G substructure and other works, with the exclusive rights given to KKB to undertake such works to the extent its service can meet Brooke Dockyard’s client requirements.

IEM Shout Out – Talk on Gumusut-Kakap Project

This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division (Not) will be  hosting a talk on the 17th December, 2011. It’ll start at 9:00am and is worth 2 CPD hours. You still gotta climb those steps at Wisma IEM.

The Gumusut-Kakap Project is one of the largest deepwater oil and gas developments in Malaysia. In this talk, an overview of the Gumusut-Kakap Project will be given. The Development Concept will be shared and the key technical features and challenges of the Subsea Infrastructure and the semi-submersible Floating Production System will be explained. The speaker will also update current progress pictures and brief the participants on the HSE requirements.

Mr. Milan Hendrikse (MSc. Eng.) is currently the Gumusut-Kakap Project Manager. In June 2007 he joined Shell in Malaysia and managed HSE and the Offshore Part of Gumusut-Kakap, before he took over as Project Manager in December 2010.

Mr. Milan completed his Aeronautical Engineering study in Delft and National Service in the Air Force before he joined Shell in 1990 as a Field Engineer. He had various assignments in project engineering/management, business development, HSE and Construction. He has more than 15 years working experiences in related field.  Key career highlights are listed below:-

ROC Oil eyes more projects in Malaysia

Dateline 2011-11-29:

Australia’s ROC Oil Co Ltd is keen to bid for more Malaysian projects after clinching a deal to develop the Balai cluster marginal oilfield, offshore Sarawak, with partners Dialog Group Bhd and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd.

ROC general manager for corporate affairs and planning Mathew Gerber said Balai is an initial entry and the company aims to increase its presence in Malaysia’s oil and gas sector, if given the opportunity.

“We have a lot more to offer,” he said, adding that the project award is a vote of confidence in ROC’s abilities as an operator of small fields.
