Gas Malaysia set for high dividend payout

How about attracting foreign investors, then have PETRONAS charge market rates for gas?

Dateline 2012-05-18:

Its position as the sole licensed operator and distributor of natural gas in Peninsular Malaysia and a high dividend payout policy are among factors attracting investors to Gas Malaysia Bhd.

The debt-free company, with small capital expenditure requirements for the next few years, expects to pay out as dividends its entire consolidated after tax profit for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2012.

Three Gas M’sia shareholders to receive RM734mil

Dateline 2012-05-18:

The three major shareholders of Gas Malaysia Bhd will receive a total of RM734mil from the sale of their shares in the former’s impending initial public offering (IPO).

Gas Malaysia’s IPO will entail only an offer of sale of 333.8 million shares at RM2.20 a piece.

The three main owners of Gas Malaysia stock are MMC-Shapadu (Holdings) Sdn Bhd (55%), Tokyo Gas-Mitsui & Co Holdings Sdn Bhd (25%) and Petronas Gas Bhd (20%). The three will rake in RM403mil, RM183.6mil and RM146.8mil respectively from the sale of Gas Malaysia shares.

SapuraKencana becomes nation’s largest O&G player

The listing of SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd (SapuraKencana) on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia signifies the successful conclusion of the massive RM11.85 billion merger exercise of two Malaysian oil and gas (O&G) powerhouses, SapuraCrest Petroleum Bhd and Kencana Petroleum Bhd.

According to the company, the merger was initiated in July last year. The merger created Malaysia’s largest O&G service provider, which also ranked among the top five O&G service companies in the world by asset value.

SapuraKencana’s chairman Datuk Hamzah Bakar said, “The O&G industry is now looking for turnkey service providers that can manage complex tasks end to end. Our new, enhanced position backed by a full suite of services and a solid international track record places us in good stead to expand our global footprint while tapping opportunities locally.”

ConocoPhilips invests US$1.5bil in oil production in Malaysia

Dateline 2012-05-18:

ConocoPhilips, among the world’s biggest oil producer from the United States, has invested US$1.5bil (RM4.6bil) in Malaysia so far for oil production in offshore Sabah.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the company’s investment was to realise the 300,000 barrels per day production target in 2016.

“Conoco has invested in three areas off Sabah, but that takes end of 2013 for the first production, but the peak will be in 2016, where they expect the production to touch 300,000 barrels a day, about half of our current production,” said Najib to Malaysian journalists after his meeting representatives of America’s leading corporate companies at Havard Club of New York here.

Roc Oil secures A$163 million pre-development funding for Malaysian oil and gas project

Dateline 2012-05-17:

Roc Oil (ASX: ROC) and its Balai Cluster Risk Service Contract partners in Malaysia have secured US$162 million (A$163 million) in project financing for the pre-development of the project offshore Sarawak.

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Standard Chartered Bank and CIMB Bank Berhad are the lead arrangers of the loan, which matures on 16 December 2014.

Roc has a 48% stake in the project and has thus far directly contributed US$30 million to the project, which is well along its pre-development phase. Total cost of the pre-development phase is estimated to be between US$200 to US$250 million.

IEM Shout Out – Half-Day HAZOP Training For Team Members – A Practical Approach

My technical division will be hosting a 1/2 day seminar on the 23rd June, 2012. It is worth 3.5 CPD points, and held at Wisma IEM. Since I’m giving it, I expect hoards will have to be turned away at the gates.

A Hazard and Operability study is a formal and systematic and detailed examination of the process and engineering intentions of new or existing facilities which assesses the hazard potential and effects on the facility as a whole when operation is outside of the design envelope, or individual items of equipment malfunction.

This half-day course is designed to educate participants in the HAZOP process from the perspective of a HAZOP team member. It is meant to provide both instruction and workshop sessions so that the participants:

  • Are familiar with the concept of ‘risk’
  • Are familiar with the theory behind HAZOP
  • Are familiar with the actual HAZOP workshop process
  • Have expectations as to what the HAZOP will (and won’t provide)
  • Understand what deliverables can be expected from a HAZOP
  • Have the opportunity to participate in HAZOP exercise in a safe environment
  • Opportunity to share HAZOP experiences

At the end of the session, the participants should:

  • Understand the responsibilities of all parties in the HAZOP
  • Have experience in a HAZOP session.
  • Understand the outcomes from a HAZOP session

Oil royalty settlement: PKR drills for details

Yeah, we want to know. But no, you don’t have to explain to voters.

Dateline 2012-04-24:

PKR today called on Putrajaya to disclose details behind the settlement reached between Terengganu and Petronas after the former dropped its legal suit against the national oil company in a longstanding oil royalty row.

Party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said the Barisan Nasional-controlled state must explain to its voters what were the benefits received from the out-of-court agreement to disprove assumptions that their right to oil royalty was determined by political discretion.
