Polisi baru PETRONAS sisih syarikat bumiputera?

March 17, 2013

You can translate yourself. Who IS the advisor on these matters? If the guy asks for a cup of coffee when discussing the points of attack, she’s been overpaid. Me, I am open, and will charge you hourly rates with an invoice.

From Harakah Daily, dateline 2013-02-03:

MTEM mahu Presiden Petronas diganti

March 16, 2013

You can translate yourself.

From Utusan, dateline 2013-02-03:

Sabah’s natural gas set to fuel growth of industries over next few decades

March 14, 2013

Any Sabahan companies want to team up with Synergy? We’re going to need to create a company in Sabah, to reap its assets? Or did I spell reap wrong?

Dateline 2013-03-07, by the Malaysian Insider:

Sabah, with over 12 trillion cu ft of gas reserves, is able to fuel the growth of various industries, including the larger ones, over a few decades, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai.

He said the active promotion of natural gas usage, a much cheaper and environmentally-friendlier alternative fuel, was in line with the government’s five-fuel policy, thus avoiding over-dependence on a single energy source.

“On average, a 1,000-megawatt (MW) gas-fired combine cycle power plant requires 1.1 trillion cu ft of gas over a period of 25 years.

“The total capacity of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd is 866.4 MW. You can work out the scale and magnitude of what the little reserves we have can do for us,” he said at a talk on “Alternative Energy Source — Compressed Natural Gas” here today.

Malaysian oil firm PETRONAS posts 14 per cent drop in 2012 profit, sees further headwinds

March 13, 2013

Obviously, PETRONAS is now associated with nautical terms now.

From the Times Colonist, 2013-03-07:

Malaysia’s national oil company Petronas said Thursday its profit fell 17 per cent last year, partly due to a shutdown of production in South Sudan, and warned of further headwinds.

Petronas said revenue rose by 1 per cent to 291 billion ringgit ($93.6 billion) but net profit slipped to 49.4 billion ringgit ($15.9 billion) in the financial year ended Dec 31.

It suffered a 45 per cent drop in profit for the last quarter of the year.

Petronas, which is Malaysia’s only Fortune 500 company and the country’s most profitable, attributed the lower profit to rising costs, loss of production in South Sudan and impairment of its Egypt investment.

IEM Shout Out – Full-Day HAZOP Training For Team Members – A Practical Approach

March 12, 2013

The Young Engineers  will be hosting a 1 day seminar on the 26th March, 2013. It is worth 6 CPD points, and held at Wisma IEM. Since I’m giving it, I expect hoards will have to be turned away at the gates.

A Hazard and Operability study is a formal and systematic and detailed examination of the process and engineering intentions of new or existing facilities which assesses the hazard potential and effects on the facility as a whole when operation is outside of the design envelope, or individual items of equipment malfunction.

This course is designed to educate participants in the HAZOP process from the perspective of a HAZOP team member. It is meant to provide both instruction and workshop sessions so that the participants:

  • Are familiar with the concept of ‘risk’
  • Are familiar with the theory behind HAZOP
  • Are familiar with the actual HAZOP workshop process
  • Have expectations as to what the HAZOP will (and won’t provide)
  • Understand what deliverables can be expected from a HAZOP
  • Have the opportunity to participate in HAZOP exercise in a safe environment
  • Opportunity to share HAZOP experiences

At the end of the session, the participants should:

  • Understand the responsibilities of all parties in the HAZOP
  • Have experience in a HAZOP session.
  • Understand the outcomes from a HAZOP session

Wata has 17 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, in both design and operations.

Matrade: Government to focus on enhancing existing O&G fields

March 7, 2013

From the Malaysian Insider, dateline 2013-02-27:

The government will continue to focus on efforts to enhance output from existing oil and natural gas fields, in addition to advancing exploration in deepwater areas.

Chief executive officer of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) Datuk Dr Wong Lai Sum said to complement the efforts, the government had introduced various new tax and investment incentives, aimed at promoting oil and natural gas exploration and development.

She said Malaysia’s significance in respect of the global oil and gas industry was well recognised, with the country currently ranked at 28th spot among oil producers, with exports of oil & gas products worth RM142.6 billion in 2012.

Malaysia’s Oil, Gas Worker Needs to Rise amid Ambitious Growth Plans

March 6, 2013

Workers, arise and join the Worldwide Brotherhood of Workers!

From Rigzone, dateline 2013-02-26:

Oil and gas production has been central to Malaysia’s growth ever since oil was first drilled in Sarawak at the start of the 20th century. Given Malaysia’s prolific hydrocarbon resources, it comes as no surprise to industry watchers that the government’s focus will continue to be placed on developing the country’s oil and gas sector moving towards 2020.
