PTTEP move strengthens investment in Malaysia

February 26, 2021

Dateline 2021-02-17, Bangkok Post:

PTT Exploration and Production Plc (PTTEP) has started its natural gas production at Rotan and Buluh deepwater fields of Block H off the coast of Sabah, Malaysia, marking its move to strengthen investment in Malaysia.

The production will increase the company’s petroleum supply and sales volume in the neighbouring country.

The first gas production in Block H came after its wholly-owned subsidiary PTTEP HK Offshore Co successfully completed the Lang Lebah-2 appraisal well in the Sarawak SK 410B Project. The drilling result registered a new record for PTTEP’s largest gas discovery.

Malaysian oil and gas giant Petronas said Monday that its PFLNG Dua floating LNG facility has recently produced its first LNG. This is the company’s second FLNG Unit, and its first deepwater FLNG facility.

The PFLNG Dua is located at the Rotan gas field, 140km off Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.

“In collaboration with its upstream Production Sharing Contract partner, PTT Exploration and Production, it has successfully completed the subsea commissioning phase and achieved its first has on 6 February 2021,” Petronas said.

Malaysian oil and gas giant Petronas has said that its second FLNG Unit, the PFLNG Dua, has set sail from South Korea, and is on its way to the Rotan gas field, offshore Malaysia.

The journey, which started from the Samsung Heavy Industries yard in Korea, will cover 1,840 nautical miles over a course of approximately two-weeks.

Once moored at the Rotan gas field at a water depth of 1,300 meters, the 393-meters long FLNG DUA will start its installation, hook-up, and commissioning.

Malaysia’s Petronas awards EPCIC deal for second FLNG project

Malaysia’s state-owned Petronas said Thursday it has awarded the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning contract for its second floating LNG project, located offshore Sabah, to a partnership of Japan’s JGC and South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.

Petronas said the EPCIC contract for PFLNG 2 follows the January 23 board approval of the final investment decision taken on the project.

The FLNG facility will be located at the Rotan field in Block H.

Murphy Oil, operator of the upstream block, had announced FID of the project early this month.

Murphy, Petronas sanction Malaysia FLNG project, 2018 startup targeted

March 9, 2014

Dateline 2014-02-03, Platts:

A final investment decision for the floating LNG liquefaction project at the Rotan field in Malaysia has been reached, and it is on track to achieving first gas by 2018, US company Murphy Oil said Thursday during a presentation to discuss its 2013 financial results.

Murphy operates Block H offshore Sabah, where the gas will be sourced, while Malaysia’s state-owned Petronas will operate the 1.5 million mt/year FLNG facility.

On a call with analysts, Murphy CEO Roger Jenkins said the FLNG project “is now fully sanctioned by both parties and the oil-linked gas terms agreed. This is a major milestone for both companies.”

Petronas had said in June last year that it was aiming for FID by the end of 2013.

Petronas to Make FID for Second FLNG Project in 2H

Dateline 2013-07-23:

Malaysia’s national oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) was expected to make a final investment decision (FID) on a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project for the Rotan field in Block H, offshore Sabah, in the second half of the year.

“Once sanctioned, production from this second FLNG vessel is expected to commence in 2016,” said a company spokesman as reported by Malaysia’s Business Times Tuesday. “The FID will be taken during the second half of this year,” he added.

The project, now in the front-end engineering design (FEED) stage, is for a FLNG equipped to produce 1.5 million tons of LNG per annum. Petronas awarded FEED contracts to two consortia – one comprising MODEC, Inc., IHI Corporation, TOYO Engineering Corporation and CB&I, while the other comprises JGC Corp and Samsung Heavy Industries.

Murphy boosts Rotan FLNG plan

February 1, 2012

Dateline 2012-01-27:

Murphy Oil has made a new deep-water gas find near its Rotan discovery in Block H off Malaysia where the company is pursuing a floating liquefied natural gas project led by PETRONAS.

The US operator said the new Bulu find was “a nice gas discovery that will be developed as part of the Rotan floating LNG programme”.

In a conference call, chief executive David Wood said the company would follow up the find with exploration of a nearby and larger potential feature, referring to Bunga Lili.

“Two more Block H wells in Malaysia are budgeted in support of that likely FLNG development.”

Block H already contained the Rotan, Biris and Dolfin discoveries.
