Tourism and O&G advantage for Labuan

April 19, 2015

Dateline 2015-03-02, Daily Express:

Oil and gas-related industries are proving a boon for Labuan in making it an attractive destination for investors.

With more than 120 local and international O&G players operating on the island, the sector will be developed further, says Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

He said to realise the objective – Labuan as an O&G hub –, the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Labuan campus had introduced a O&G preparatory programme.

The programme, he added, is preparation towards pursuing the newly-introduced Bachelor in Oil and Gas degree program at Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International College (UMSKAL), in collaboration with Petronas.

The first intake of students commenced in February this year.

Malaysia’s Petronas Swings to First Quarterly Loss

April 18, 2015

How about stopping those 10 course dinners for foreign workers? And the 10 figure paychecks for the same, while you are at it, as part of asking contractors to reduce pricing by 30%. Redistribute the wealth to, I don’t know, using local workers for the TGAST construction?

Dateline 2015-02-27, TWSJ:

Malaysia’s national oil-and-gas company, Petroliam Nasional Bhd., or Petronas, on Friday said it would cut its investment plans by as much as 30 billion ringgit ($8.3 billion) in the next two years as the company reported its first-ever quarterly loss.

For the three months ended Dec. 31, the company reported a net loss of 9.87 billion ringgit ($2.7 billion) compared with a profit of 9.58 billion ringgit a year ago. After including profit attributable to noncontrolling interests, the company reported a net loss of 7.27 billion ringgit for the quarter, compared with a profit of 12.76 billion ringgit a year ago.

Malaysia willing to work with Singapore on regional oil pricing

April 17, 2015

See, we could have stored crude when it was USD45 a barrel.

Dateline 2015-02-27, The Malaysian Insider:

Malaysia is willing to work with Singapore to become part of a regional oil pricing area, including offering land for storage the island state lacks, the head of a Malaysian state body coordinating a major new oil hub said.

Despite being an oil and gas exporter, Malaysia lacks sufficient storage and refineries to allow it to act as a pricing hub like Singapore, Europe’s ARA hub (Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp) or Houston in the United States.

In a bid to remedy this, Malaysia is building the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC) at its southern most point in Johor state, about 10km east of Singapore.

Job Opportunities – Amec Foster Wheeler (Well Completion Engineer)

April 14, 2015

This is a recent request, hence the unpolished language (as if you’d notice):

Amec FW is looking for a well completion engineer, to help review a new tech standard document owned by a PSC. Due to dumb contracting, they need a senior eng with at least 10 years in that position. Work can be done at your premises, but you have to turn up to a face-to-face 2 hr meeting with the doc owner. In other words, you can moonlight if you don’t mind fronting the work.

Contact me, or put a sensible response in the comments. Non-sensible responses, Jabba will handle (where is that Hutt?).

IEM – Visit to Technical Visit to Centre Of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) And Offshore Engineering Centre Of Universiti Teknologi Petronas

April 14, 2015

My technical division is organising a trip to the wilds of Tronoh on the 24th April, 2015. It’s worth 4.5 CPD points. Go.

The Centre of Research in EOR was established in Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in year 2006 to promote excellence in EOR research that mostly addresses the needs of industry and to manage laboratory services. Research in the area has continuously expanded at UTP since 2006. Most EOR research projects are conducted by the petroleum engineering staff and the topics are mostly conventional topics such as subsurface fluid flow, rock fluid interactions etc.  In addition, there is an increasing interest from non-petroleum engineering researching EOR chemicals, application of waves, advanced materials among others.

You can register here, and grab the brochure here.
