Lundin Remains Bullish on Malaysia Oil and Gas Sector

February 6, 2013

Dateline 2013-01-29:

Having made several discoveries at fields offshore Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah this year, Lundin Petroleum AB remains bullish on Malaysia’s oil and gas sector.

“We remain very optimistic about the Malaysian oil and gas industry and plan to continue to evaluate new opportunities and grow wherever possible,” Lundin Petroleum head of corporate communications Maria Hamilton told Business Times.

On Lundin Petroleum’s capital expenditure in Malaysia for this year, Hamilton said:

“We plan to immediately commence our activities and will only make a decision on drilling and capital investment once we have sufficient time to fully evaluate the new data.”

Lundin Petroleum recently announced that it had been awarded the licence by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) to operate a new block, Block PM319, offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

First onshore oil & gas find in Malaysia in 24 years

January 25, 2013

Didn’t they find oil onshore Kelantan a while back? Was it hushed up?

Ah, now I know where the Asam Paya field is.

Dateline 2013-01-19:

Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has made an onshore oil and gas discovery in Sarawak, the first after 24 years, after Asam Paya Field in 1989, also in Sarawak.

About 349 metres of net hydrocarbon thickness was found in the Adong Kecil West-1 well after Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd and its joint-venture partner, JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Onshore Sarawak) Ltd, drilled the well in Block SK333, which is located about 20km northeast of Miri.

Exciting future for Malaysia’s oil and gas industry

January 24, 2013

Dateline 2013-01-17:

TREMENDOUS POTENTIAL- Billions of ringgit going into risk service contracts, more oil discoveries plus billions to spend in capex

THE future looks stimulating for the local oil and gas industry, with billions of ringgit of investments going into risk service contracts (RSCs), more discovery of deepwater reserves, plus tens of billions of ringgit in upstream capital expenditure (capex).

The potential in technologically demanding areas such as enhanced oil recovery, asset integrity, integra-ted operations and deepwater exploration is expected to provide opportunities for local players to develop indigenous technology.

Besides marginal fields development, analysts and industry players see the merger between SapuraCrest Petroleum Bhd and Kencana Petroleum Bhd into SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd, the liquefied natural gas regasification terminal and the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex, as major highlights of the industry in the year 2012.

Gas Malaysia’s FY13, FY14 net earnings to grow 10pc

January 23, 2013

C’mon, use up that gas, cook more.

Dateline 2013-01-14:

Gas Malaysia Bhd is expected to register 10 per cent and seven per cent net earnings growth in financial years 2013 and 2014 respectively, supported by larger gas supply from Petronas, said HwangDBS Vickers Research.

In a note, the research firm noted there will be further upside in the future, driven by rising gas demand and Petronas’ ongoing efforts to import more liquefied natural gas into Malaysia.

Peninsular Malaysia accounts for approximately 90 per cent of the nation’s natural gas consumption.

Ever played the game traffic jam? It should be the official game of WP.

And you wonder why I don’t like visiting clients where parking space is limited. Good thing this particular client is moving to Tower 3 in January, 2013.

Much prefer underwater traffic jams.
