October 17, 2012

This is a shout out for IEM. The Chemical Engineering Technical Division will be organizing a Two-Day Course on Corrosion Control of Steel Structures by Coating Technology & Cathodic Protection on the 8th and 9th November, 2012 (Thursday & Friday) at Wisma IEM, PJ. The session is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. (registration at 8.30 a.m.) and end around 5 p.m. Participant will be granted 8 CPD/ PDP hours at the end of the course.

Corrosion has been a concern in many industries. Corrosion can cause unexpected failures of structures and can result in huge losses in life, production as well as environmental. It has been reported that corrosion can, on average, causing around 3% of GNP in many industrialized countries. Coating and Cathodic protection are two of few most effective corrosion protection methods available in the industry nowadays. It has been successfully used to overcome corrosion and extension of service life of structures.

The course is divided into three main parts. The first part deals with the fundamental of corrosion and its type, the second part will focus on the corrosion control by coating technology while the third part focus on cathodic protection.

The course will introduce you to the following topics:

  • Fundamental of Corrosion
  • Type of Corrosion and Its Recognition
  • Type of Corrosion Control Methods
  • Introduction to Corrosion Control by Coating
  • Paint Components and Types of Binders, Pigments, Fillers and their Functions

Shout Out – Talk on Corrosion in The Oil and Gas Industry

October 16, 2012

This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division will be  hosting a talk on the 6th November, 2012. It’ll be at 5:30 pm  (makan-makan at 5:00). There’s an elevator at Wisma IEM, so no excuses.

The Oil and Gas Industry has a huge range of activities from exploration, extraction and production, processing and manufacturing of hydrocarbons.

The potential for corrosion to occur exists at all these stages as long as metallic materials are used. Corrosion if left unchecked can lead to disastrous failures that can cause huge impact to loss of production, damage to facilities and environment, and safety of personnel and the public. The key issues relating to HSSE, Cost, Integrity and Quality for an effective and successful prevention of corrosion are discussed in this presentation.

At the end of this presentation, the attendees should be aware of different corrosion processes in the different areas of activities, how design decisions are made to control predicted corrosion, and the keys to corrosion management during operations and production.

Puan Hjh Maimunah Ismail joined Lloyds Register Technical Services on 1st October, 2012.  She is now holding the roles of Asset Integrity Manager and Lead Specialist and based at Tan & Tan building at Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.

Baung Dalam Bangkar – Duff Development Company Ltd v. State Government of Kelantan

October 14, 2012

Kickdefella

(petikan nota kaki Kelsen – The Principles of International Law)

Malaysia set to be regional LNG hub

October 11, 2012

Dateline 2012-09-19:

Malaysia is poised to be the region’s hub for liquefied natural gas (LNG) importation, trading and storage once its LNG regassification terminal in Malacca is ready.

“With the LNG terminal, which will hopefully come on stream in October, we believe that we are poised to be the regional hub for LNG importation, trading and storage,” Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Performance Management and Delivery Unit chief executive officer Datuk Seri Idris Jala said.

“A lot of work is also being done in the east (of the country), and I have no doubt in my mind that the plant that the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (Sogip) is building in Sabah will also add to the whole array of things happening in the industry,” he said at the inaugural Malaysia Oil and Gas Services Exhibition and Conference 2012 (MOGSEC).
