Norwegian oil firm may face action for ‘misleading’ Petronas

Norwegian oil services firm Aker Solutions said on Thursday one of its managers was being questioned by Malaysian authorities and three sources familiar with the case said they expected charges to be filed today.

Malaysia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has been investigating allegations that Norway’s biggest oil services company made false representations to win licences from state energy group Petronas that are normally reserved for companies that meet ethnic quota requirements under Malaysian law.


Company senior vice president charged with cheating O&G firm

A senior vice-president of an engineering company was charged in the Sessions Court here, today with duping a leading oil and gas company into listing his company as a qualified company with Bumiputra status, three years ago.

Ahmad Hatta Kamaruzzaman (picture), 50, who is also head of Aker Engineering Malaysia pleaded not guilty after the charge against him was read before judge Izralizam Sanusi.

The accused, as an agent of Aker Solutions Group, was charged with intentionally submitting documents for the purpose of duping the oil and gas company.

It was for the purpose of listing Aker Engineering Malaysia as a qualified company with Bumiputra status, when the accused knew that it was not true.


Malaysian ex-staff suing Norway’s Aker Solutions obtains court order to serve documents in Europe

A former staff of Aker Solutions ASA (Norway), who had sued the oil services firm for alleged abuse of court process, has received the go-ahead to serve her court papers on her former employer in Europe.

A High Court order obtained by Seetha Kumarasamy last month, sighted by theedgemarket.com today, allows her to serve the documents out of Malaysia’s jurisdiction, and it is understood that she will do so after the documents are translated.

The Norwegian firm will have 21 days to respond to the suit upon receiving the documents.

Three Malaysian units of Aker Solutions, which have also been named as defendants in the suit, have already responded. They have appointed the legal firm of Skrine & Co to represent them.


Petronas poised to power up off Brunei

Malaysian operator Petronas is expected to approach the market soon seeking contractors to provide subsea facilities for development of the Kelidang Cluster in Block CA-2 off Brunei, moving a step closer to anticipated first production at the deep-water natural gas field in late 2021 or early 2022.

Industry sources with direct knowledge of the field development told Upstream that the state-owned company will award Norway’s Aker Solutions a contract to start on the front-end engineering and design for the Kelidang Cluster scheme, which includes a subsea production system and subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines.

Aker Solutions is a global provider of products, systems and services to the oil and gas industry. Their engineering design and technology bring discoveries into production and maximize recovery from each petroleum field. They employ approximately 15,000 people in 20 countries. Aker Solutions portfolio of oilfield stretches all the way from the reservoir to the wellstream processing systems generating marketable and valuable hydrocarbon products.

The Aker Solutions Manufacturing Centre in Port Klang assemble oil and gas production equipments and systems. Some of the items that have been manufactured are topsides process packages, subsea structures, subsea christmas tree, subsea control module, subsea wellheads, and drilling and production risers. In this visit, visitors will be able to learn how the manufacturing centre is operated and maintained.
