From Bernama – Labuan to Be Oil & Gas Hub

March 18, 2011

Goody, another way for profits to be gained without paying the rakyat their due via taxes. How do I get into this scam?

Dateline 2011-02-26:

Labuan is being considered as a third oil and gas hub of Malaysia, after Teluk Ramunia and Pengerang in Johor, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

The Prime Minister noted that the RM387 million Phase 2 undersea pipeline could support the oil and gas industries.

“We are still studying the matter (of giving Labuan the status). The Minister of Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing has briefed me on the potential of the oil and gas sectors in Labuan,” he told reporters after opening a 1Malaysia clinic in Taman Mutiara here Saturday.

Shout Out – Talk on Information Management Solutions for the Oil and Gas, Energy and Process Industries

March 8, 2011

This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division will hosting a talk on the 10th March, 2011. It’ll be at 5:30 pm (makan-makan at 5:00). You still gotta climb those steps at Wisma IEM.

Information management (IM) solutions are developed to drive inefficiencies and inadequate processes out of the process industry supply chains by providing early visibility of quality, fully validated information – Supply Chain Content, to all parties in the plant life cycle.

An IM solution improves information on existing facilities to give a true picture of the physical plant configuration, linked through the bill of materials to inventory spares, and maintains the quality of supply chain information throughout the life of the plant. A correctly applied solution accelerates facility start-up, minimises capital expenditure on inventory, and delivers major improvements in procurement, operations and maintenance that maximise the owner’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) investment.

The speakers for this event are Mr. Dag Pettersen and Mr. Yngve Nilsen.

You can register for the event here or download a registration form here.  A map to Wisma IEM is presented here. The F***book event is here.

From Bernama – MMHE Q3 Pre-tax Profit Rises 5.5 Per Cent To RM133.3 Million

March 6, 2011

Are you surprised?

Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Bhd’s pre-tax profit rose 5.5 per cent to RM113.3 million for the third quarter ended Dec 31, 2010 from RM107.4 million in the same quarter of 2009.

Its revenue, however, declined to RM1.3 billion from RM1.5 billion previously.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia today, the company said the higher pre-tax profit was mainly contributed by its engineering and construction business.

From the Business Times – Petronas discoveries come at right time

March 3, 2011

Dateline 2011-02-21:

The oil and gas finds are timely when Malaysia’s oil and gas reserves and production capacity are seen dwindling.

IT HAS been quite a while since we last heard Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) and its production sharing contractors announcing new major discoveries of oil and gas in Malaysian waters.

Last week’s announcement of oil and gas discoveries offshore Sarawak could not have come at a better time when Malaysia’s oil and gas reserves and production capacity are seen dwindling.

It was just last year that PETRONAS had pledged to concentrate more on domestic exploration and development rather than aggressively going to lucrative but risky international waters.

From Borneo Post – Marginal oil fields a boon for local O&G sector

February 27, 2011

Dateline 2011-02-05:

The award development and production contracts to local players is a game changer for local oil and gas (O&G) service providers as this is the first time local players have been invited to participate.

UOB Kay Hian (Malaysia) Holdings Sdn Bhd (UOB Kay Hian) in its report pointed out that newsflow on this sector would be forthcoming and would act as a near term catalyst for a sector-wide re-rating. This move was intended to groom and moved local O&G players up the value chain.

To recap, Petronas had awarded a risk sharing contract (RSC) to develop and produce the Berantai field to a joint operating party (JOP) formed by a tripartite.

Petrofac Energy Development, a London-listed O&G exploration and production (E&P) company would take a 50 per cent stake, while SapuraCrest Petroleum Bhd (SapuraCrest ) and Kencana Petroleum Bhd (Kencana) would each have a 25 per cent equity participation in the JOP.
