Cameron and Natco – A Cosy Family

April 11, 2010

Here’s some old news I only heard recently. To quote from the website:

Cameron acquires NATCO and integrates NATCO with Petreco to create Cameron’s Process Systems, the industry’s Total Solution Provider.

Hmm, I haven’t heard of Process Systems, so either it reaaaally isn’t the industry’s TSP, or I’m way behind on reading my trade paper subscriptions.

Now, Cameron has offices in Malaysia which are PETRONAS licensed. So, I wonder how the Scomi Natco tie-up via Scomi NTC is going to proceed?

Then again, Cameron provides valves to UOP, a competitor to NATCO, so I guess companies will jump in bed with whoever provides the most pleasing outcome.

Here’s how I perceive the services provided by the companies mentioned above:

  • Cameron – Wellhead equipment
  • NATCO – Separation solutions
  • Scomi – hmmm, I have had no technical dealings with them. Though it does crop up in the news for other reasons.
  • UOP – Separation solutions

From Offshore – Petrofac looking to boost Malaysia production

March 25, 2010

I think this isn’t news anymore, but here it is out in the open. Don’t know why the link is called ‘Petrobras’ though. Taken from the Offshore Magazine, dateline 2010-03-15:

KUALA LUMPUR — Petrofac’s Energy Developments division is considering a second-phase development of Block PM304 offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

The company operates the Cendor oil field on the license, which last year averaged production of 14,400 b/d, down slightly on levels in 2008. Petrofac’s Engineering & Operations division installed a Caltec Wellcom multiphase boosting system on one of the wells, which led to a substantial increase in output. As a result, further units may be installed.

Petrofac and its partners Petronas, PetroVietnam, and Kufpec have also drilled numerous successful near-field appraisal wells. They have commissioned a front-end engineering design study for a second-phase program, and expect to submit a field development proposal during the second half of 2010.

From VNS- PETRONAS acquires Thang Long LPG

March 24, 2010

Even though this isn’t Malaysian per se, I have included it as Thang Long is in my business sights at the mo’. Dateline 2010-03-20, taken from the Viet Nam News:

HA NOI — Malaysia’s national petroleum corporation, Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS), took full control over Thang Long Liquefied Petroleum Gas Co Ltd after buying PetroVietnam Gas Corp’s share of 28.83 per cent.

The value of the deal was not revealed by either party.

Thang Long LPG, established in 1995, began as a joint venture between PETRONAS and PetroVietnam Gas Corp. The company has a register charter capital of nearly US$6.2 million, to which PETRONAS contributed $4.4 million (equivalent to 71.17 per cent of the total value).

The completion of the acquisition paves the way for PETRONAS to consolidate its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) business in Viet Nam which is being led by subsidiary Thang Long LPG and PETRONAS Viet Nam Company Ltd (PVL).

As part of the acquisition exercise, the PVL will assume the role of sole agent for sales and distribution of the “Gas PETRONAS” brand in Viet Nam.

“Gas PETRONAS” is currently sold and distributed by the PVL in the country’s southern region and will soon be introduced in the north as a replacement of the “Thang Long Gas” brand.

Thaêng Long LPG is the second largest LPG distributor in the north of the country after Petrolimex Gas.

From The Star: Wah Seong bids for Socotherm

Dateline 2010-03-18, from The Star:

KUALA LUMPUR: Oil and gas company Wah Seong Corp Bhd submitted its bid to buy over Italian company Socotherm SpA three weeks ago, said deputy managing director Giancarlo Maccagno.

The results of the tender, which has attracted four other parties, would be known by end-April.

Maccagno declined to reveal the cost of the acquisition, which would be funded internally, as the company had a high cash reserve and low gearing of 0.3 times.

The SOGE Story – MECIP Synergy Futsal Survivors’ Dinner

March 7, 2010

We had a dinner of sorts at BB Thai Seafood Restaurant, across the road from the Skypark (it will always be Terminal 3 to me). Members of the Synergy and MECIP team turned up.

We wonder what other team sports MOGSC MOGEC will come up with. Paintball? Paint-balling? Congkak? Televised Chess? Me, I’m up for Wii Sports.

Indonesia to import 600,000 oil barrels from Sudan

February 13, 2010

A taste of what Malaysia will undergo soon.

February 5, 2010 (JAKARTA) – Indonesian state-owned oil company PT Pertamina said it had obtained a permit from the trade minister to import 600,000 barrels of “Nile Blend” crude from Sudan.

Oil production in Indonesia has decreased steadily during the last decade, owing to disappointing exploration efforts and declining production at Indonesia’s large, mature oil fields.

In 2008, Sudan exported the majority of its oil to China (214,000 bbl/d) followed by Japan (102,000 bbl/d) and Indonesia (43,000 bbl/d). Additional importers of Sudanese crude include India, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysia

The SOGE Story – Visit to Brunei

February 12, 2010

Synergy was invited to visit Brunei through a few aquaintances that we met. Since it was the first time to that country, I was snapping photos of anything that didn’t move.

From Brunei fm – Johor to be Oil & Gas Hub

February 11, 2010

Here’s a new source of information, Brunei fm, dateline 2010-02-03:

JOHOR BAHARU, MALAYSIA, Feb 3 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Plans by the southern Malaysian state of Johor to become the western Pacific region’s leading oil and gas hub by 2025 will receive a major boost with the opening of a speciality steel pipe manufacturing plant in the state this weekend.

The 250 million Ringgit (one USD = about 3.4 Ringgit) investment by Erndtebrucker Eisenwerk GmbH & Co KG (EEW) of Germany, is the first of several major new investments in the state’s oil and gas sector.

Anyone visit Johor often?

From Pipeline International – Trans Oriental

February 10, 2010

Ah, some interesting tech news, dateline 2010-02-03:

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Trans-Oriental Gas Pipeline (TOGP) has been signed between Distinct Objective Sdn Bhd (DOSB), Asia Consortium Petroleum Engineering and Gas, Messrs Enmac Sekutu Sdn Bhd, China’s Panyu Chu Kong Steel Pipe Co and Dongah Tec of Korea.

Under the agreement, approximately 4,000 km of subsea natural gas pipeline, extending from Malaysia to South Korea, will be constructed.

DOSB will build a 2,500 km section of pipeline running from offshore Pahang, Malaysia to north Vietnam.

I take that back, some interesting political news. From offshore Pahang… wonder where our PM hails from, think it was coastline province of one state on the east coast.
