From the Malaysian Insider – H Merican to Stay?

Taken from the Malaysian Insider, dateline 2010-01-19:

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19 — Petronas advisor Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (picture) signalled his objection today to the national oil company’s CEO Tan Sri Hassan Marican being replaced with a senior politician.

The Malaysian Insider had reported last week that Hassan’s term at the helm of Petronas is likely to be extended for another year after his contract expires next month, but speculation persists about a politician taking over his job.

An announcement on the extension — expected soon from the government — will put an end to the uncertainty surrounding Hassan’s future.

Compare this to the article that muses on Tan Sri’s potential replacements, which has a later dateline.

hey, graduates, why don’t you just write to petronas and say you are the best, smartest person from University Lembu Malaysia and you want to be the CEO.

If you donate, I’ll ask wata to forward your cv and you can then be a CEO of petronas.

why be an engineer when you can be a CEO, isn’t it?

funny why no one wants to apply for CEO……..

    ape lar ko ni jabba…membosankan

    • Wata says:

mamat: expect never to be employed by jabba.

    • JabbatheHutt says:

  3. mamat says:

    jabba..u talking nonsense…a lot

  4. Daz says:

I think Jabba’s been eyeing the position for quite some time. Ah… the pain. Guess the qualification needed is a bentley rather than experience. Engs are at bottom of the list cos we make things work. But who knows.. maybe the government just wants a higher cut and hassan ain’t budging

On the serious side of things, look like the government didn’t learn from proton or MAS and still wondering why expertises have been bailing out the country since the 90s. You can’t fly straight here if you wanna be to the big fish.

    • Relax says:

Good engineers will avoid Petronas at all cost.

Egon-Zehnder might possibly place Wally (Dilbert) as the CEO of Petronas.

      • Daz says:

Actually, Hassan’s the good guy here i think. Petronas has been the only reason our government’s not bankrupt by now.

He actually did quite a good job with petronas, just that his business approach to things ain’t the same wavelength with our current public servant number one. You have the government that wants to spend the profits versus the board that wants to invest it.

      • Wata says:

Daz: is it the board or PETRONAS management that wants to reinvest the money?

      • Daz says:

Wata: You got me there. Not sure, probably the management but the board takes the credit when they get something right. I would imagine that Petronas follows a normal corporate process where the board makes the final decision in investment and direction of the company.

    • JabbatheHutt says:

yes, u read my mind like a book.

i want to be the CEO. but then again, I am too busy working here. anyway, jabba is having a bit of a offtime in Bangkok now.

will be meeting wata tomorrow. i hope they have fast internet where he’s staying, so he can update us with blow by blow update of the PETRONAS saga.

  5. Daz says:

    * -to.

Anyway, just an opinion as i’m quite negative when it comes to the government. Same story, just different people.

2010 and we’re still a developing country with no natural disasters….

  6. zaris says:

Hmm… politicion as Petronas CEO? Make sure jabba should have more ‘kopi money’ to do business in Petronas.

    • JabbatheHutt says:

hey, i can be anything you want, a politician, police, saint, sinner, lover or anything…. if i get to claim my expenses on company account, bring my family for a tour round the world, and save a few hundred million in my personal account (USD/GBP… MYR tak laku), then it doesn’t matter.

If I become CEO, I promise everyone that supported me, that I will be more corrupt, more devious, and take more money out to be shared by my friends. (and I will donate to Jabba’s paypal).

    • Wata says:

zaris: how do you know that jabba is not in PETRONAS already? Do you see PNAS arm in arm with the IEM lately? That’s how much influence Kenobi, I mean jabba wields.

    • JabbatheHutt says:

      Politician, non-politician, academic, moderate….

      all the same….

the main aim of becoming a CEO is to milk as much money out of the shareholder…..

  7. Anonymouse says:

    politician..

    Correct Korekk korekkkkkk!
