Taken from AOG – PETRONAS and EOR

March 6, 2009

Taking the article from the Asian Oil & Gas magazine,

Malaysia has set itself an ambitious target to add an additional 520 million barrels of oil to its reserve by 2010 by applying EOR technologies to its offshore oilfields.

According to Dr. Nasir Hj. Darman of …

Hopefully, the spill off will allow us small specialist engineering companies to soldier through these trying times. Even though most of the work is downhole, the PSCs must need to design additional topsides facilities (im thinking water injection here) to pursue their EOR of choice.

Reminder – RON 92

February 10, 2009

In anticipation of RON 95 being sold at the same price as RON 92, during my travels I did discover that RON 92 is being sold in the less metropolitan parts of the country at RM1.70/liter.

Saturday Star 2008-10-18 – Job Opportunities

October 20, 2008

Another week, another scan of the Saturday Star newspaper. Here’s a list of job ads in the paper:

  • PETRONAS (all capitals, please) is recruiting. The online ad version of The Star isn’t clear, but I think there’s an Open Day from the 24th-26th Oct, 2008 at the JW Marriot, KL. I wonder why they didn’t do it next door at the Mandarin. Too expensive? Anyhow, they are looking for people with at least 7 years experience, which leads on the the next ad.
  • Synergy Oil and Gas Engineering is recruiting fresh chemical engineering graduates, or those with around 1 year experience. CVs may be sent to enquiry@synergykl.com.my.
  • The Kuwait Oil Company is looking people. You can visit the job website and send your application here and here. The engineering positions they offer are for process, reservoir, petroleum, drilling, planning, cotnracts, maintenance, material, cost estimation, safety and enviromental. In a nutshell, ask and you will find an opening.
  • QP is looking for a lot of people. You can visit the QP website. Did I tell you that QP’s SWB (salary, wages, benefits) package is something to be sneezed at?
  •  M3nergy is recruiting. CVs may be sent here. HQ-based positions available are for planning, marine, QS.
  • RasGas is looking for a rotating eqt and mechanical integrity specialist. . Snr Integrity, Snr Mech, Snr Programmatic, Snr Elect/Power, Measurement Specialist (Way hay!), Snr Rot Eqt, Snr. I&Control, Analyser Eng Specialist. CVs to be submitted here. I believe RasGas is a JV, one of the partners being ExxonMobil.
  • Delcom (public holding company Deleum) is looking for a Evaluation engineer. At least 2+ years experience. Hah, you have to send a hardcopy CV to NOV ReedHycalog, 4th Floor, South Block, Wisma Selangor Dredging, 142A Jln Ampang, 50450 KL. Closing date is 18 November, 2008. Always a good way to weed out the trawlers from the dedicated applicant.

Anyone know if Chee Meng is going to open a branch is SS15 Subang?

It must still be a slow week, that’s the only engineering job I can find.

Ruby Field and PETRONAS’s Tale of Woe

October 8, 2008

Ah, even little brother (MISC) can get on PETRONAS’s nerve once in a while. Apparently there’s a whole story about crappy design methodologies and a design contractor working without proper oversight.

ExxonMobil – Instep MOU

September 11, 2008

Signing of MoU between EMEPMI and INSTEP

On September 3, 2008, EMEPMI signed an MOU with the PETRONAS Institute of
Petroleum Technology (INSTEP) to develop a technician training curriculum
for Upstream Production Operations.

Zan Noor Ismail, Operations Manager, signed on behalf of EMEPMI while
Khairul Azman Yasin, PETRONAS Management Training Berhad CEO, signed on
behalf on INSTEP. Grace Choo, EMEPMI SHE Manager and M. Sazali Salim,
INSTEP General Manager witnessed the signing.

Since 2002, EMEPMI has been utilizing INSTEP facilities to train field
technicians. The MOU will expand this relationship for the benefit of
both parties as follows:

  • INSTEP will gain access to proven training curriculum developed from
ExxonMobil’s worldwide vendor pool and calibrated against ExxoMobil
    global standards.
  • EMEPMI will be able to leverage on INSTEP as a proven training
facility and training provider to help rebuild competency levels in
the current workforce as well as for training of new trainee intakes.

The signing of the MOU marks another milestone in the ExxonMobil and
PETROANS partnership. The training curriculum developed through this
partnership will contribute towards building a competent local workforce
not only for ExxonMobil but also for the Upstream Oil & Gas Industry in
Malaysia.

Pirates hijack MISC tanker

August 22, 2008

Quoting from the Star:

PETALING JAYA:The whereabouts of 29 Malaysians and 10 Filipinos on an MISC Bhd tankers remains unknown since the vessel was hijacked by heavily-armed pirates in the Gulf of Aden on Tuesday.

MISC, the world’s largest single owner and operator of liquefied natural gas tankers, confirmed that its 32,025 dead-weight-tonne chemical tanker Bunga Melati Dua which carried palm oil was hijacked by pirates at 10.09pm local time off the coast of Somalia.

Bernama has this to say:

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 21 (Bernama) — Wisma Putra will utilise all diplomatic channels and work closely with countries in the Gulf of Aden region to amicably end the hijacking of Malaysian tanker MT Bunga Melati by heavily-armed pirates on Tuesday.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said Wisma Putra would continue to monitor the situation and developments through the Malaysian High Commission in Kenya and the Malaysian Embassy in Yemen.

He said this was to coordinate the peaceful recovery of the vessel and the safe return of all crew members on board.

“The tanker owner, Malaysian International Shipping Corporation (MISC), has communicated to all family members of the crew that it would continue to keep them updated on a timely basis,” Rais said in a press release Thursday.

PETRONAS has 62% ownership of MISC.
