Saturday Star 2010-02-13 – Job Opportunities

February 15, 2010

I was browsing through the Reporter online lately, and out of curiosity, I looked up the lecture schedules of NatSci and ChemEng. Lo and behold, the timetable (and in some cases the lecturer) has not changed since I last stepped into the halls in 1995.

  • Petrofac is looking for a flowlines & sub-sea cables delivery manager, FPSO Marine System Eng (Chendor’s FPSO I believe), Lead QA Eng and a Process Engr. Contact them here.
  • And there’s another Petrofac ad, for a Drilling Eng, Completion Eng, Snr Well Test Eng, Drilling Fluid Advisor.
  • Hmm, Zee Engineering is looking for Pipeline Eng and Struc Eng for Indonesia. Contact them here or here.
  • OPR is looking for a Software Eng and Pipeline Eng. Snail mail to OPR Pipeline & Riser Sdn Bhd, A-5-6, Megan Avenue 1, 189 Jalan Tun Razak, 50400 KL.

No food places this week. Anyone want to suggest a menu and place in Penang?

Saturday Star 2009-12-26 – Job Opportunities

December 28, 2009

There were no newspapers published (or at least none distributed) last Saturday. Off the top of my head, the current jobs available are:

  • Rumour has it that Petrofac is looking for a Project Manager to handle insanely large amounts of money. Jabba should apply.
  • Synergy is looking for lead safety engineers, safety specialists, junior and lead process engineers and technical writers. We’re on an expansion drive, people! Visit the Synergy website for contact details. For leads, you need 5 years plus experience in the oil & gas industry. For safety specialist applicants, you need to be well versed in HAZOP, HAZID, QRA, FERA and Formal Safety Assessment. Ah, heck. If you have more than 5 years experience in O&G, apply. If you have less than 5, send a donation to the offshore account, and still get abuse. For juniors, go pick up a copy of Cambridge’s ChemEng syallabus, and go study like the Tripods (all of them) are tomorrow.

Saturday Star 2009-09-19 – Job Opportunities

September 21, 2009

First of all, let me say Selamat Hari Raya Eidul Adha Fitri, maaf zahir dan batin, and happy holidays (you can tell I’m a 1Malaysia Malaysian, right?).

  • First off, Synergy is looking for 5 lead safety engineers and 3 lead process engineers. Visit the Synergy websites (Jakarta and KL) for contact details. And safety specialists. Ah, heck. If you have more than 4 years experience in O&G, apply. If you have less than 4, send a donation to the offshore account, and still get abused.
  • Petrofac ‘at the heart of oil & gas operations’ seems to be looking for an EPC team. They want a WHP EPC Delivery Manager (15+ yrs), Pipelines & Flowlines Delivery Man (15 – 20 yrs), Costruction & Completions Man (15-20 yrs), FPSO Delivery Man (15-20 yrs), Lead QA Eng (15+ yrs), Senior Bus Plan Eng (15+ yrs), Snr Contract Eng (5+ yrs, but they want a LAW degree), WHP Project Eng (5+ yrs). Let me guess, they have either i) selected their people and the ad is ‘lepas batuk di tangga’, or ii) they are getting Caucasian expats, or iii) they are going to pinch from other EPCs. Contact them here.

And that’s it for this week.

Saturday Star 2009-04-11 – Job Opportunities

April 14, 2009

Another week, another scan of the Saturday Star newspaper. Here’s a list of job ads in the paper:

  • Oo, PETRONAS has a full page advert. Those of you who believe you are worth the skewed starting salary PETRONAS offers (and PETRONAS doesn’t pay engineering companies enough to offer the same skewed salary), please apply.  Note that this time round, they are looking for 7 years plus experience. Send your CVs to talent@petronas.com.my.
  • Dialog is looking for you to ‘further your ambition in the oil & gas industry’. There are positions for IT support, network, tech sales, project. Send an email here or snail mail to Humarn Resources Department, Dialog Group of Companies, 109, Block G, Phileo Damansara 1, No. 9, Jalan 16/11, 46350.
  • Petrofac is looking for a reservoir engineer, junior petroleum engineer, junior reservoir engineer. Email to vacancy.kl@petrofac.com, or snail mail to Human Resource.

Saturday Star 2009-01-24 – Job Opportunities

January 27, 2009

Another week, another scan of the Saturday Star newspaper. Here’s a list of job ads in the paper:

  • Synergy Oil and Gas Engineering is recruiting fresh chemical engineering graduates, or those with around 1 year experience. CVs may be sent to enquiry@synergykl.com.my. It’s also looking for admin execs who can run the invoicing / payroll / accounting as well as be office managers. Come visit us at W-07-01, Subang Square Business Park, Jalan 15/4G, Subang.
  • SGS is looking for a Sampling / PVT engineer, flow assurance engineer (hey, I’m breaking into that market!) and new chem engineers. Send emails to sgs.malaysia@sgs.com, or snail mail to The Human Resources and Admin Division SGS (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd, Unit 10-1, 10th Floor, Bangunan Malaysian Re, No. 17, Lorong Dungun, Damansara Heigths, 50490 KL. Most people confuse SGS with Shell Global Solutions. Not me, I go the other way round. I’ve met SGS before under the guise of their meter certification program. As for being a PVT engineer, my sources tell me that if you have to characterise a hydrocarbon, be prepared to spend a week+ matching the compositional breakdown with the PVT data.
  • Petrofac is looking for a deputy production manager. Sounds like an EMEPMI facilities engineer to me, though I hope the pay is better. Email to vacancy.kl@petrofac.com, or snail mail to Human Resource Department Petrofac (Malaysia-PM304) Limited, Leavel 50, Tower 2, PETRONAS Twin Towers, 50088 KL.
  • Esso is looking for Service Station Dealers. Contact them at Retail Area Manager (Dealership Application) Level 13, Menara ExxonMobil, KLCC, 50088 KL. I’ve never been on Level 13 myself, me being an upstream man and all.

And it’s a short week. If you are interested in finding out what Synergy can do for you, send me a note on this blog entry.

Why don’t companies put a link to their web pages in the papers? Hey, I’m doing you guys a service here, throw some money my way, or I’ll sic Jabba on you.

Sigh, since I have moved with Synergy out of KL, will you patronise Chee Meng in my memory? Or invite me to meetings around Bukit Bintang at lunchtime?

Saturday Star 2008-09-13 – Job Opportunities

Another week, another scan of the Saturday Star newspaper. Here’s a list of job ads in the paper:

  • I see Murphy Oil is looking for a senior production surveillance installation engineer, and senior installation support engineer. CVs to be submitted here. Someone once told me, if you every quit Murphy, you can never come back again. Some one told me the same thing about ExxonMobil as well, I can tell you for a fact that they aren’t making good that promise.
  • QP is looking for a lot of people (full page ad). You can visit the QP website. Did I tell you that QP’s SWB (salary, wages, benefits) package is something to be sneezed at?
  • Petrofac is looking for people. Unlike the last advert, these are for KL positions. Need 10+ years relevant exp. Apply here with full details.
  • Here’s a strange one. “Offshore/onshore safety trainers required. We are the “Trainer of Choice” … Please fax your resume to … Sharina at 03-2693 6915 …” Someone please contact this person and tell me what drops out.
  • Lloyd’s Register Technical Services is looking for an Inspection Engineer. Apply here with full details.
  • Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) is looking for a process and a production engineer. You can apply via email here
