This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division will be having a talk on Saturday 9th August, 2014 by Ir. Al-Khairi. It’ll be at 9:00am (makan-makan at 8.30am) at Wisma IEM. Due to the topic, I expect a lot of our friendly law enforcement and massive camera presence
A physical law or scientific law, according to the Oxford English dictionary, “is a theoretical principle deduced from particular facts, applicable to a defined group or class of phenomena, and expressible by the statement that a particular phenomenon always occurs if certain conditions be present.”Wikipedia.
So if the physical laws are always true than we can repeat success every time when the success conditions are presents. Similarly we can avert failures or even predict poor consequences whenever the conditions are met.
As long as we live in this earth the physical laws will always govern us. The questions are:
- Are you aware of the physical laws that govern your life?
- How can you benefits from the laws?
To be successful, you must not beat the physical laws. You must use the laws to your advantage. The physical laws are always present. We just don’t realize how to get the laws working to our favours.
To fly, you don’t ignore gravity. You use the understanding of gravity to defy falling down.
This talk will expand on the physical laws in experiential manner for you to uncover your hidden potential and what has hindered you from success. The physical laws can be used in all aspect of your life, management, business, relationship.
This talk will not only change the way you think about physics. It will make you be part of the physical world.
Ir. Al-Khairi has 20 years of experience in research, cement, oil and gas, petrochemical, oleo chemicals industries and health care facilities. He has gained various experiences in design, construction, testing and commissioning, operate and maintain facilities and plants from various multinational companies both abroad and locally. He has served in various roles as engineers and manager to the plant and facilities.

Explosives is actually an essential part of our modern life. It is used to break rock in Quarries so that we can get aggregates for our roads, airport, housing and building construction, port, bridges and used in countless projects. With use of explosives we get minerals and metals, oil and gas, coal that provides the electricity that we need in our daily life. Explosives are also used in our annual Merdeka celebration to light our skies (fireworks) and we live with it daily in our cars (airbags). Explosives are sometimes used in medical treatment of heart. The fastest way to bring down old buildings is through the use of explosives.
There are so many uses of explosives in industry. The talk is to introduce the use of explosives that benefit our daily life and dispense the belief that explosives are used for destructive purposes only. It is also an introduction to futures course in explosives in civil, mining quarrying and other industries that are of interest to engineers by the technical division.
Ir. Hj. Look Keman graduated in 1979 in Mining Engineering from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, Scotland and M.Sc (Explosives Ordnance Engineering) from Royal Military College of Science, Cranfield University, England in 1991. He served as a Research Engineer specialising in Geotechnical Engineering/Slope Engineering and later as Inspector of Mines serving in Perak, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan and Malacca with the former Mines Department from 1979-1996. As a Government Engineer he oversees Construction blasting work in Kuala Lumpur at SOGO, Starhill, Pudu, Damansara and Selangor. He had experience in the investigation of Firework Factory where 26 people were killed.in 1991. He was responsible for designing a firework magazine for Al Famosa. This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division will be having a talk on Saturday 14th June, 2014 by Ir. Alzakri Ekhwan. It’ll be at 9:00am (makan-makan at 8.30am) at Wisma IEM.
Aboveground storage tanks are significant assets and commonly found in oil, gas and petrochemical industries. Tanks which are used for storing hydrocarbons are considerably critical and must be diligently maintained throughout their operating life to ensure no leaks or catastrophic failures occur. Maintenance programmes are usually in place but executing these programmes are not as simple as what we normally think.
The talk will provide a sharing of tank experiences and maintenance practices on:
• On-Line Repair (Non Standard Repair)
• Tank Out-of-Service Maintenance.
It will also touch on ways of extending the lifespan of existing atmospheric storage tanks througheffective maintenance regimes. These include approaches in tackling floating roof pontoon leak, desludging of crude oil using non man-entry method, dealing with Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) and conducting middle shell course replacement method safely and cost effectively
Ir. Alzakri Ekhwan is a Principal Engineer for Static Unfired Equipment based in PETRONAS Penapisan (Melaka) Sdn. Bhd. (PP(M)SB) and has more than 20 years of experience in maintenance, design, fabrication, inspection and construction of Static Equipment in the Oil and Gas industry. He was the Staff Engineer and Field Engineering Manager for MG3 Lube Base Oil (MG3) Project and Hydrogen Processing Unit 2 (HPU-2) Project. Prior to that, he was a Senior Inspection Engineer of PETRONAS Penapisan (Melaka) Sdn Bhd and Head of Mechanical Section of PETRONAS Methanol (Labuan) Sdn Bhd.
