MURPHY OIL CORPORATION ANNOUNCES FIRST OIL AT SIAKAP NORTH-PETAI AND UPDATES PROGRESS AT DALMATIAN

April 10, 2014

Dateline 2014-0303, TWSJ:

Murphy Oil Corporation MUR -0.03% announced today that first oil production from the Siakap North-Petai (SNP) development offshore Malaysia commenced on February 27, 2014.

The SNP field, operated by Murphy with a 32 percent working interest, is located offshore Malaysia in a water depth of approximately 4,400 feet. The overall field development plan consists of eight producing wells and five water injection wells developed as a subsea tie-back to the Kikeh Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. Initial operations commenced with production from four oil wells. Peak gross production from the field is expected to reach 35,000 barrels of oil per day in mid-2014. The unitized field combines the discoveries at Siakap North in Block K with Petai in the adjacent Block G. Murphy’s partners in the development are PETRONAS Carigali, Shell, and ConocoPhillips COP +0.18% with the latter two partners each holding a 21 percent working interest.

Murphy mulls US$2b-US$3b sale of M’sian assets

Spurred by the recent sale of Newfield Exploration Co’s Malaysian operations, American oil major Murphy Oil Corp is looking to hive off a 30% stake in its oil and gas (O&G) assets here at a price tag of US$2bil-US$3bil (RM6.62bil-RM9.93bil), sources said.

A sale by Murphy is potentially more lucrative than the one agreed between Newfield and SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd last year for US$898mil (RM2.97bil), given its much larger production and reserves, O&G executives told StarBiz.

Several parties have expressed interest, including Houston-based Coastal Energy Co,a firm linked to Malaysian investor Taek Jho Low.

Malaysia’s Petronas awards EPCIC deal for second FLNG project

March 22, 2014

Dateline 2014-02-13, Platts:

Malaysia’s state-owned Petronas said Thursday it has awarded the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning contract for its second floating LNG project, located offshore Sabah, to a partnership of Japan’s JGC and South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.

Petronas said the EPCIC contract for PFLNG 2 follows the January 23 board approval of the final investment decision taken on the project.

The FLNG facility will be located at the Rotan field in Block H.

Murphy Oil, operator of the upstream block, had announced FID of the project early this month.

Murphy, Petronas sanction Malaysia FLNG project, 2018 startup targeted

Dateline 2014-02-03, Platts:

A final investment decision for the floating LNG liquefaction project at the Rotan field in Malaysia has been reached, and it is on track to achieving first gas by 2018, US company Murphy Oil said Thursday during a presentation to discuss its 2013 financial results.

Murphy operates Block H offshore Sabah, where the gas will be sourced, while Malaysia’s state-owned Petronas will operate the 1.5 million mt/year FLNG facility.

On a call with analysts, Murphy CEO Roger Jenkins said the FLNG project “is now fully sanctioned by both parties and the oil-linked gas terms agreed. This is a major milestone for both companies.”

Petronas had said in June last year that it was aiming for FID by the end of 2013.

Shell invests RM3.2b in Malaysia

Dateline 2013-09-25, Malaysian Reserve:

Shell Malaysia has reiterated its confidence to invest US$1 billion (RM3.22 billion) in fixed investments in the Malaysian oil and gas (O&G) industry, providing employment to over 6,500 people, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said.

“I just had a discussion with the Shell leadership including Shell’s group CEO and they have expressed confidence in the country and will continue to invest in the country, he told newsmen after delivering a keynote address at the Shell Malaysia Innovation Summit in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

A key project that Shell is working on is the Gumusut Kakap, a deepwater field which Shell is developing with Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, ConocoPhillips and Murphy. When it goes into full production, it is expected to contribute 20% to 25% of Malaysia’s oil production, with design capacity of 150,000 barrels per day.
