MOGEC Shout Out – Full-Day HAZOP Training For Team Members – A Practical Approach

September 28, 2014

MOGEC will be hosting a 1 day course (our first in my memory) on the 28th October, 2014. It is worth 6.5 CPD points, and held at Saloma Bistro. Since I’m giving it, I expect hoards will have to be turned away at the gates.

A Hazard and Operability study is a formal and systematic and detailed examination of the process and engineering intentions of new or existing facilities which assesses the hazard potential and effects on the facility as a whole when operation is outside of the design envelope, or individual items of equipment malfunction.

At the end of the session, the participants should:

  • Understand the responsibilities of all parties in the HAZOP
  • Have experience in a HAZOP session.
  • Understand the outcomes from a HAZOP session

download the form here.

Malaysia set to be regional LNG hub

October 11, 2012

Dateline 2012-09-19:

Malaysia is poised to be the region’s hub for liquefied natural gas (LNG) importation, trading and storage once its LNG regassification terminal in Malacca is ready.

“With the LNG terminal, which will hopefully come on stream in October, we believe that we are poised to be the regional hub for LNG importation, trading and storage,” Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Performance Management and Delivery Unit chief executive officer Datuk Seri Idris Jala said.

“A lot of work is also being done in the east (of the country), and I have no doubt in my mind that the plant that the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (Sogip) is building in Sabah will also add to the whole array of things happening in the industry,” he said at the inaugural Malaysia Oil and Gas Services Exhibition and Conference 2012 (MOGSEC).

Saturday Star 2012-04-28 – Job Opportunities

April 30, 2012

Support me by purchasing my recommendations, or buying through my Amazon store. I need the money to pay for running this site. Corporate level sponsors are encouraged.

If you need my help to submit your CVs, donate to the blog, and I’ll review your CV to see if it is worthy of my (and my associates’) expectations. If you can’t figure out how to donate, no need to ask.

  • I’m looking for a senior process engineer, 7+ years experience. Send your cv here . Also looking for process safety persons, lead piping designer, lead instrument engineer, and other seniors you think will catch my eye.
  • Shell is looking for people for a mess of people. You can visit www.shell.com/careers and select Job Search & Apply → Malaysia.

May I suggest that readers install the Waze app on their phones? And use it as much as possible? It says its a “a social mobile application providing free turn-by-turn navigation based on the live conditions of the road. 100% powered by users, the more you drive, the better it gets. Join the community of drivers in your area today!” It’s definitely getting better for the Klang Valley area, though we need more users from East Malaysia.

Support your local bookshop! Visit Bookalicious at The Summit Subang, good selection of imported books. I think they focus on trilogies, quadrilogies, and otherologies. Tell them I sent you, and enjoy the look of perplexity on their faces. Maybe I should say that next time I visit them. Those of you who have dropped my name, thanks!

BTW, did I tell you that I am the Secretary of MOGEC?

For those of you who have a healthy skepticism to my industry, these books are for you:

This week’s food promotion is … masak asam pedas. If you find nice places around PJ, let me know. I’ve tried the one across from the PJ State Police Station, and the shop next to Dewan MPSJ in PJ State.

The SOGE Story – Member of MOGSC

September 25, 2009

I have started getting emails related to MOGSC activities, so I presume that Synergy is a paid-up, card carrying, flag waving member of MOGSC. I haven’t seen any benefit yet, except probably a ‘Huh?’ when our name was circulated for approval. I wonder if there are 3rd degree members, 33rd degree members, aprons and rolled up trousers involved (sorry, just finished reading the Lost Symbol).

Looking forward to the Hari Raya do at MPC. Another photo opportunity. Just call me paparazzi of the oil and gas industry.

I submitted SOGE’s membership for MOGEC the same day as the MOGSC application. Maybe we’re not good enough for them…

MOGSEC – MOG(small)EC

December 19, 2008

There is an organization called the Association of Malaysian Oil & Gas Engineering Consultants, acronym MOGEC. Its stated objective is to

foster a closer relationship among the oil and gas engineering consultants

If you look the MOGEC members, it seems as if it is a list of big boys in the O&G consulting industry. Now, are the aims of these entities the same as say those who are starting out in the field? They might be focused on:

  • protectionism of their pie.
  • cooperation to improve economies of scales
  • self – interest in tailoring work to suit the Procurement, Construction and Consulting arms of their respective conglumerates.
  • Possibly distributing work to their overseas partners.

What about the smaller engineering companies? They have different things to worry about:

  • Getting work from big boys.
  • promoting their services viewed as niche markets.
  • Promoting their names.
  • Growing specialised services locally.
  • Getting put (and knowing off) the appropriate lists to get on, and people to talk to.
  • Malaysianization of their operations.
  • Access to financial instruments more suited to their scale.

So, do you think that another industry body, which I propose calling MOGSEC, be appropriate, and would it get support?

Don’t get me started on MOGSC (which is pronounced mogs-see).
