June 21, 2012

Dateline 2012-05-19:

ConocoPhillips (COP) is expected to make an additional $5 billion investment to ramp up its operations in Malaysia, the New Straits Times daily reported Saturday citing Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak.

The oil giant had invested $1.5 billion so far in three deepwater blocks offshore of Sabah state where production will start next year and hit a peak of 300,000 barrels of oil a day by 2016, the daily reported.

The paper also reported that Eastman Chemical Co. (EMN) is looking to increase its investment by $350 million on its polyester plastics plant in Pahang state.

ConocoPhilips invests US$1.5bil in oil production in Malaysia

June 13, 2012

Dateline 2012-05-18:

ConocoPhilips, among the world’s biggest oil producer from the United States, has invested US$1.5bil (RM4.6bil) in Malaysia so far for oil production in offshore Sabah.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the company’s investment was to realise the 300,000 barrels per day production target in 2016.

“Conoco has invested in three areas off Sabah, but that takes end of 2013 for the first production, but the peak will be in 2016, where they expect the production to touch 300,000 barrels a day, about half of our current production,” said Najib to Malaysian journalists after his meeting representatives of America’s leading corporate companies at Havard Club of New York here.

Join the community of drivers in your area today!” It’s definitely getting better for the Klang Valley area, though we need more users from East Malaysia.

From Reuters – ConocoPhillips seeks to expand in Malaysia upstream

June 22, 2010

Does ConocoPhillips want to operate oil blocks in Malaysia? They do have an office in the Twin Towers, but I believe its represents CoP’s interests in JV’s rather than operating as a PSC.

Dateline 2010-06-08, reported by Reuters:

ConocoPhillips (COP.N), the third-largest U.S. oil company by market value, is talking to national energy giant Petronas to expand its position in the upstream sector in Malaysia, a senior executive said on Tuesday.

“We are certainly looking for opportunities in Malaysia. We are talking to Petronas,” said Ryan M Lance, ConocoPhillips’ Senior Vice President, Exploration & Production, International.

“We would love to expand our position in Malaysia,” he told Reuters on the sidelines of an oil and gas conference in the Malaysian capital.

Asked what areas ConocoPhillips is targeting, he said: “Exploration oil and gas. We are always looking for good opportunities.”
