November 27, 2014

I see SKY has been promoted to ExxonMobil President, congratulations.

Dateline 2014-09-12, The Malaysian Insider:

In a statement today, ExxonMobil said the operations would start with water-alternating-gas injections from the recently-installed Tapis R central processing platform into targeted wells on the existing Tapis A platform.

Its president, See Kok Yew, said the project exemplified ExxonMobil’s leadership in technology application and global project execution excellence to maximise reserves recovery from producing fields.

The Tapis EOR project is one of several oil and gas investments announced in January 2011 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as part of the country’s Economic Transformation Programme.

Malaysia plans exports of new crude oil grade in November

November 25, 2014

Goodbye, Tapis Crude. Hello, Kimanis.

Dateline 2014-09-10, Reuters:

Malaysian state oil firm Petronas plans to ramp up production at an offshore field this month, with first exports of the new crude grade planned for November, two sources with knowledge of the matter said Wednesday.

Ramp-up of output at the Gumusut-Kakap field is key to Malaysia’s efforts to boost production and exports from several deepwater developments in the eastern part of the country.

Production of the new Kimanis crude grade may reach 80,000-90,000 barrels per day (bpd) next year, with potential to raise production further in the future, said one of the sources.

“If everything goes right, a cargo will load in November,” the source said.

Petronas begins oil production in Banang field

November 23, 2014

Dateline 2014-09-05, Asia One Business:

Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has commenced oil production from the Banang field – part of the Kapal, Banang and Meranti (KBM) cluster of marginal fields awarded to a consortium of Coastal Energy Co and Petra Energy Bhd – on July 15, three months ahead of schedule.

The national oil company said in a statement yesterday that Banang was the second field under the KBM risk service contract (RSC) to have achieved first oil after the Kapal field came onstream in December last year.

This makes the KBM cluster, located offshore Peninsular Malaysia, the third RSC to successfully reach oil production after the Balai cluster and Berantai field, Petronas said

Tanjung Langsat Port to sell Johor storage terminal

November 22, 2014

Anyone want to be my backer in building a calibration facility in the ‘adjacent piece of land’?

Dateline 2014-09-03, The Malaysian Insider:

Malaysia’s Tanjung Langsat Port plans to sell its storage tank terminal in the southern state of Johor and has short-listed at least five companies for a second round of negotiations, sources close to the matter told Reuters.

The terminal may come with an adjacent piece of land, allowing the potential buyer to expand and tap on rising quantities of crude oil and oil products passing through the Malacca Straits to meet growing demand in Asia.

Singapore, Asia’s largest oil trading hub, faces land shortages that have driven billions of dollars of spending on the construction of storage facilities in neighbouring Malaysia and Indonesia.

Japan’s Inpex to sell 25 pct of Malaysia oil block stake to Santos

November 21, 2014

Dateline 2014-09-01, Reuters:

Japan’s Inpex Corp said on Monday it has agreed to sell a 25 percent stake in the deep water Block S in offshore Malaysia to Australian oil and gas producer Santos Ltd.

Japan’s biggest oil and gas producer, which will reduce its stake in the block to 50 percent after the transfer, serves as the operator in the block located in eastern Malaysia. An Inpex spokeswoman declined to comment on the price.

Inpex has conducted a three-dimensional seismic survey and geological studies in Block S, and depending on the result, it plans to drill wildcat wells this year for new discovery of oil and natural gas deposits, the company said in a statement.

SKE is the operator with a 40 per cent working interest with partners Petronas (30 per cent) and Sarawak Shell (30 per cent) holding the remaining interest.

SK408 Block is located in shallow waters approximately 120 kilometres offshore Sarawak covering an area of approximately 4,480 square kilometres in the prolific Central Luconia Gas Province.

Sarawak wants higher oil royalty

November 18, 2014

Dateline 2014-08-27, Free Malaysia Today:

Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem has confirmed that he will seek an upward revision to the present 5 per cent oil royalty “to spur its development under the 12th Malaysia Plan”.

He disclosed that the Sarawak government was still engaged in talks with the Federal government and Petronas, the national oil corporation, on the quantum of increase.

“We are not satisfied with the present five per cent,” he reiterated in a statement after an Aidilfitri gathering in Sebuya near here yesterday.

“Increasing the revenue from oil royalty would be one of the thrusts in the Sarawak government’s development planning.”
