Petronas confirms employee arrested for suspected graft

October 19, 2017

Is there a project manager app for that? And PCSB TAs have a lot of power, apparently.

Dateline 2017-09-06, Malay Mail:

State oil-and-gas firm Petronas confirmed this afternoon the arrest of one of its staff by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The Star had earlier today reported the arrest of a Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd project delivery manager at his office in the iconic Petronas Twin Towers yesterday. The 45-year-old was said to be suspected of involved in a RM23.7 million graft case.

“The arrest follows an internal investigation on the employee conducted by Petronas, which later reported the case to MACC.

“Petronas also assisted MACC investigators on the case prior to the arrest,” the company said in a media statement.

The company said it does not condone nor tolerate any form of misconduct among its employees and contractors will fully cooperate with the anti-graft body’s investigations “if necessary”.

The Star also cited MACC director of investigations Datuk Simi Abd Ghani as confirming the arrests of the PCSB employee, along with two others: a 57-year-old contractor that had previously worked with the O&G exploration and production services company and a 28-year-old former PCSB technical assistant yesterday.

Petronas: Internal probe led to MACC arrest of 3 men

October 17, 2017

Really? Rumor had it, that MACC officials had difficulties in accessing the office.

“Petronas does not condone nor tolerate any form of misconduct among its employees and contractors, and is extending its fullest cooperation to MACC to further assist in its investigation if necessary,” Petronas said in its statement.

Saturday Star 2017-10-14 – Job Opportunities

October 16, 2017

Happy prepare docs for a HAZOP week. IGL has pivoted into training, so book your seats now.

We’re thinking of republishing Young Turks of PETRONAS, but it’s a minimum 500 book printing run. Do I have enough interested persons to purchase?

Donate to your favorite charity (me), buy my recommendations, or through my Amazon store. Or get the Young Turks series (3 books until I can get YTP republished). Where are those corporate sponsors? Or throw donations at me, my camera dive case flooded, and I need a new replacement. Heck, if you want to send me a Canon 5D Mk III plus dive case, I will not say no.

  • I have a feeling that The Star isn’t the preferred O&G job recruitment portal now, and they have moved adverts to another online presence (I bought a dead tree edition this week). I see more adverts via social media. What do you think, is it a step change that the papers need to embrace?
  • I’m looking for jobs for 1Q2018. Send me your POs.

Food choice of the week? Support your local mee bandung.

Thinking about the zombie apocalypse, you need something to jumpstart access to those dodgy Internet sites:

Sarawak CM: Petros board members must be very experienced

October 15, 2017

Dateline 2017-09-02, FMT:

Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Tun Openg said for a person to be appointed as a board member of the newly formed Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros), he or she must be very experienced in the oil and gas industry.

He was responding to a question posed by a reporter who asked when he was going to appoint a Dayak representative to the Petros board of directors.

“Actually, there is already a Dayak representative in the board by the name of Mohd Medan Abdullah, who is a Muslim Kelabit,” he said here today.

The Chief Minister’s Office had recently announced the appointment of former state secretary Hamid Bugo, who once served with Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd in Bintulu, as chairman of Petros. Hamid has also been chairman of oil and gas company Sapura Resources Bhd since March last year.

The other Petros board members announced are Sharbini Suhaili, Zuraimi Sabki and Heng Hock Cheng, whom Abang Johari had described as “experienced industry professionals with very strong and proven track records and had served in key positions in the oil and gas industry”.

Malaysia’s Largest Company to Push Ahead with Acquisition of Daewoo E&C

October 14, 2017

Not Malaysia focused, but hey.

Dateline 2017-09-01, Business Korea:

Petronas, a world-class energy company, will press ahead with the acquisition of Daewoo E&C, following global players including Saudi Arabia’s Aramco who revealed its will to take part in a bid for Daewoo E&C to be held within this year. Such moves are raising a possibility that Daewoo E&C will be sold off for a higher price. Its estimated selling price is about 2 trillion won (US$1.8 billion).

According to the investment banking (IB) industry on August 31, Malaysia’s Petronas is considering the acquisition of the Korea Development Bank’s 50.75% stake in Daewoo E&C including the management right. Petronas will participate in taking over Daewoo E&C in October after reviewing Daewoo E&C’s business structure, financial conditions and business performances by September. Petronas is said to be planning to forge a local consortium with Maybank and CIMB.

Seek new opportunities, Nancy reminds Malaysians

October 13, 2017

Yes, Datuk, we are trying.

Dateline 2017-08-31, Borneo Post:

Malaysians have the responsibility to keep looking for new opportunities  for progress that would make their ancestors proud and provide their grandchildren with a flourishing country they call home.

In stating this, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said in this period of growth and development, the nation must not forget to look back to what led the country to where it is today.

“Over 60 years ago, the nation fought for its independence, an endeavour that would not have been accomplished but for the cooperative support of the entire country.

“Today, the need of a union between Malaysians that transcends race, religion and even gender has not dwindled but perhaps become even more crucial. If we are to effectively pursue the development of our country, we must not forget the values that brought us here today,” she said in her National Day message yesterday.

Promoting downstream oil and gas industry

October 12, 2017

Any may I complement Izhar Hifnei Ismail on his eloquence, and when will he do a photo op with me? Muar boleh!

Dateline 2017-08-31, Japan Times:

The PIPC sits on a 20,000-acre piece of land in Pengerang, in Malaysia’s Johor state. The PIPC is designed to accommodate downstream oil and gas industrial facilities such as refineries and petrochemical plants, deep-water terminal and storage tanks, naphtha crackers, regasification plants and supporting facilities, as well as manufacturing plants and industrial parks.

To be developed in phases, the PIPC covers both core and non-core downstream activities. Included in the PIPC master plan are designated areas for related support services such as a plastic and fine chemicals park, a light and medium industrial park, a waste management center, an emergency response center, a logistics hub, a commercial hub and others.

The striking attraction of the PIPC lies in the robust design of the PIPC master plan that strives to enable and promote future growth and sustainability, by offering a wide spectrum of investment opportunities targeted at downstream oil and gas players.

Up or down, there’s just no winning for petrol dealers

October 11, 2017

How is that? Are the house odds stacked against the playa?

Dateline 2017-08-30, FMT:

Although petrol dealers hardly get any sympathy on social media when they complain about their losses, they are very much in a losing situation.

Speaking to FMT, Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM) president Khairul Annuar Abdul Aziz said this was because the profit margin for dealers set by the government through the automatic pricing mechanism hasn’t been reviewed since 2008.

Presently, the profit margin is set at 12.19 sen per litre for petrol and 7 sen per litre for diesel, but operating costs have doubled since then due to the implementation of minimum wages and increases in electricity tariffs.

Additionally, Khairul said petrol dealers absorb a 1% service charge imposed on customers who pay using credit or debit cards.

“So when fuel prices increase, our operating expenses decrease because we are buying the petrol low and selling high, but we are forking out more for the service charge on card payments because the value of that 1% increases.
