March 26, 2018

Dateline 2018-02-15, FMT:

The Sarawak Chief Minister’s Office has denied a posting on social media that cited Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg purportedly giving an ultimatum to Petronas.

“The office wishes to clarify that the chief minister has never issued such an ultimatum to Petronas though the onus is on Petronas to comply with the state law like any other companies with prospecting and mining interests in Sarawak.

Third Party Access system no threat to Petronas Gas, says Kenanga Research

March 24, 2018

Dateline 2018-01-17, The Sun:

Kenanga Research is of the view that the Third Party Access (TPA) system, which took effect yesterday, will not be a drag on Petronas Gas Bhd’s (PetGas) earnings, given that the company is purely a transporter and processor and is not involved in gas supply.

In any case, the research house said, TPA will only affect PetGas’ parent company, Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) and Gas Malaysia Bhd.

On Monday, PetGas announced that the Energy Commission had confirmed the current tariff for the Peninsular Gas Utilisation System, Regasification Terminal Sungai Udang and Regasification Terminal Pengerang will be maintained until the end of this year.

At the same time, the company said it is in full compliance with the technical and operational provisions of the TPA system, which allows any party to have access to gas facilities available.

Kenanga Research said the news was not a surprise, given the management indication earlier that the new tariff structure is likely to be delayed as the authority needs more time to come out with a feasible framework to ensure the stability of the fee structure.

Malaysia’s nuclear power plants dream far from definite

March 20, 2018

Shucks, I had a gamma ray chamber all set up, and Dr. Horrible was going to preside the opening.

Dateline 2018-02-08, Malaysian Reserve:

Malaysia is unlikely to put into motion any concrete plans to build the country’s first two nuclear power plants before 2030.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the government is not expected to commit to the 2030 target due to the complexity of the issue and the need for a detailed study before such implementations.

“We also do not want to panic the public. At the same time, the government wants to learn more (about the technology) before embarking on it,” she told The Malaysian Reserve in a recent interview.

Malaysia had initially planned to commission the country’s first and second nuclear plants in 2021 and 2022 respectively, as outlined under the Economic Transformation Programme.

Saturday Star 2018-03-17 – Job Opportunities

March 19, 2018

Happy post SPM survival week. IGL has pivoted into training, so book your seats now.

We’re thinking of republishing Young Turks of PETRONAS, but it’s a minimum 500 book printing run. Do I have enough interested persons to purchase?

Donate to your favorite charity (me), buy my recommendations, or through my Amazon store. Or get the Young Turks series (3 books until I can get YTP republished). Where are those corporate sponsors? Or throw donations at me, my camera dive case flooded, and I need a new replacement. Heck, if you want to send me a Canon 5D Mk III plus dive case, I will not say no.

  • I have a feeling that The Star isn’t the preferred O&G job recruitment portal now, and they have moved adverts to another online presence (I bought a dead tree edition this week). I see more adverts via social media. What do you think, is it a step change that the papers need to embrace?
  • I’m looking for jobs for 3Q2018. Send me your POs.

Food choice of the week? I’ll think about it.

This week, may I suggest you have a peek at Dakwah Corner? They have branches in Subang Parade, PJ Section 14, Ampang Park (okay, forget about the Ampang Park branch)

Applications for licences under TPA being processed

March 18, 2018

Darn it, I missed the boat.

Dateline 2018-02-04, The Sun Daily:

The Energy Commission (EC) has processed two liquefied natural gas (LNG) import licences and three shipping licences under the third party access (TPA) system which comes into effect on Jan 16, 2018.

Director of Gas Development and Regulation Roslee Esman said another firmed application for both LNG import and shipping licences was expected to be submitted in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, the TPA for natural gas is a system that makes it possible for third parties to access gas facilities that they do not own or operate.

Roslee said the Gas Supply Act (Amendment) 2016 and the introduction of the TPA provided more opportunities for industry players to participate.

“The EC encourages more suppliers (LNG import and shipping licensees) to apply for the licence but the market can be considered as being competitive once two or more shipping licensees participate in the market,” he told Bernama.

CM: Sarawak will exert mining rights

March 17, 2018

Dateline 2018-01-30, Malay Mail Online:

The Sarawak state government said it will exert its mining rights, including oil mining, despite Petronas having the legal right to explore and mine for petroleum in state territorial waters.

Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg said mining was part of the rights of Sarawak enshrined in the Federal Constitution.

He said the state government has also directed Petronas to consult the state on the utilisation of gas from any new fields.

“This is to ensure that Sarawak has the first right of refusal in using the new sources of gas for the development of our oil and gas industries as well as the development of other industries in Sarawak,” he said in his speech at the special sitting to mark the 150th anniversary of the state legislative assembly.
