September 29, 2014

Talbiyah (from 123muslim.com)

Buy my recommendations, or through my Amazon store. Or get the Young Turks series (all 4 books). Where are those corporate sponsors? Or throw donations at me. I need RM360 to get The Star ePaper. Or go to Hajj, whichever you prefer.

  • I’m lining up jobs for next quarter, for IGL Services. Whisper to (better yet, carpe jugulum) your boss, and send work my way.
  • Nothing in the papers this week. With all the layoffs I heard, that is no surprise. Can I buy a lead process engineer for RM40/hr?

Support your local bookshop!  Bookalicious at The Summit Subang is a good choice. I think they focus on trilogies, quadrilogies, and other ologies. Tell them I sent you, and enjoy the look of perplexity on their faces. Those of you who have dropped my name, thanks!

Food choice of the week? How if you visit Vietnam, how about visiting and updating GoHalalVietnam! for your food needs. For your other needs, talk to your local tour guide/ concierge / man on the street.

Need some new management techniques. How about these books?

At the end of the session, the participants should:

  • Understand the responsibilities of all parties in the HAZOP
  • Have experience in a HAZOP session.
  • Understand the outcomes from a HAZOP session

IEM Shout Out – Full-Day HAZOP Training For Team Members – A Practical Approach

September 28, 2014

My technical division will be hosting a 1 day seminar on the 20th November, 2014. It is worth 6.5 CPD points, and held at Wisma IEM. Since I’m giving it, I expect hoards will have to be turned away at the gates. And it’s a big room, so I need to fill the seats.

A Hazard and Operability study is a formal and systematic and detailed examination of the process and engineering intentions of new or existing facilities which assesses the hazard potential and effects on the facility as a whole when operation is outside of the design envelope, or individual items of equipment malfunction.

This course is designed to educate participants in the HAZOP process from the perspective of a HAZOP team member. It is meant to provide both instruction and workshop sessions so that the participants:

  • Are familiar with the actual HAZOP workshop process
  • Have expectations as to what the HAZOP will (and won’t provide)

  • Understand the outcomes from a HAZOP session

Dateline 2014-07-15, The Straits Times:

TUCKED away in a corner of the south- eastern tip of Johor, a regional oil and gas hub is starting to develop in Pengerang. A world-class oil storage terminal officially opened near the small town last month.

Pengerang is part of an ambitious plan launched in 2009 to build Malaysia’s biggest refining and petrochemical complex. It has been earmarked as one of the country’s key economic transformation projects and is designed to develop South-east Johor into a regional oil storage and trading hub.

MPRC helps generate RM3.5b investments in oil and gas storage

September 26, 2014

Thank you, MPRC for actively stimulating Malaysia’s O&G industry. Now, if you can stimulate my income to the level of RM2M tax free… who do I need to ‘seek consultancy services’ from?

Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corp (MPRC) has assisted in generating a total of RM3.49 billion investments in oil and gas (O&G) storage as of 2013.

Another RM3.52 billion investments were attracted in the O&G services, said its president/chief executive officer, Datuk Shahrol Halmi, in the corporation’s inaugural corporate report for 2013.

The report offers an overview of the achievements of the government agency, which was set up in 2011 to make Malaysia the regional O&G services and manufacturing hub.

Dateline 2014-07-09, Business Spectator:

Better performance expected in 2H for Malaysia O&G sector

September 21, 2014

Dateline 2014-07-07, Borneo Post:

Oil and gas (O&G) companies in Malaysia will continue to see excitement ahead in the second half of 2014 (2H14).

The research team at Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd (Kenanga Research) expect to see mergers and acquisitions (M&As) for non-stop exploration and production in the near future.

“We were pleasantly surprised by Dialog Group Bhd’s (Dialog) recent announcement that it had entered into a Letter Of Intent (LOI) to farm into 20 per cent of ROC Oil’s participating interest in the Production Sharing Contract (PSC) for the three fields D35, D21 and J4 fields, located offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.

“No purchase price has been revealed as yet but we will not be surprised if the consideration mirrors ROC oil’s farm-in terms (US$25 million plus a carry with a 50 per cent participating interest of US$80 million for the project spread over Phases 1 and 2).”

PETRONAS’ skills expansion to be supported by IChemE

September 20, 2014

Should be the IEM, yeah?

Dateline 2014-07-04, Process and Control Today:

PETRONAS has become the first organisation in Malaysia to receive accreditation for its company training scheme by global professional body, the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).

PETRONAS, the national oil company of Malaysia, currently employs more than 30,000 employees group-wide, including 3,500 chemical engineers. It plans to grow rapidly over the next few years, including building the USD16 billion Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project.

PETRONAS expects it will need additional chemical engineers to support its expansion and in recent years has been working closely with the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), to develop its own world-class and globally recognised training scheme.

In June 2014, PETRONAS achieved a major milestone in its skills development strategy with formal accreditation by IChemE for its internal company training scheme called Accelerated Capability Development (ACD) for Chemical Engineering.
