March 23, 2015Happy GDPS day. No, not GPS. Buy my recommendations, or through my Amazon store. Or get the Young Turks series (all 4 books). Where are those corporate sponsors? Or throw donations at me.
- Nothing in the papers today.
- An associate of mine is looking for a technical safety part-time adviser. Needs to be needle sharp with respect to QRAs, and HSE safety cases. A calm demeanor to handle nonsensical questions from young engineers helps as well. Either that, or a drinking problem.
- Hess is still looking for a measurement and allocation engineer.
- Nothing else this week

Boris Johnson: ‘Why I had to intervene during mid-air assault’
March 23, 2015A reason why you should hire closer to home. Also, I would like to use this article to point out that us local/ rakyat folks demand to travel business class, similar to hoity toity foreign workers. PETRONAS, stop complaining when I budget this in my proposal. And… Boris Johnson visited Malaysia?
Dateline 2015-01-16, The Telegraph:
A drunken air rage passenger was jailed for six months after Boris Johnson wrote to a court explaining how the man put the flight’s safety at risk and had to be guarded constantly.
The Mayor of London intervened after David Morris became abusive mid-flight following a drinking binge of whiskey and wine. He was arrested by police when the plane landed.
The 43-year-old oil engineer was on a plane from Kuala Lumpur when he launched the drunken attack on crew in the first class cabin after drinking in the business class lounge and on the flight.
Mr Johnson tried to calm down the abusive passenger during the air rage incident, with a member of his entourage tweeting a photo of the mid-air drama.…

The Terengganu government will review its 2015 state budget tabled in December, after the recent drop in oil prices.
Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said prior to this, the RM2.37 billion state budget was tabled with a target to continue the policy of managing a surplus budget.
He said the budget which was tabled was based on past acquisitions, adding there might be some differences as the oil prices dropped slightly.

Three parties prequalified for Kasawari CPP contract
March 20, 2015Dateline 2015-01-13, Borneo Post:
Three parties have likely been pre-qualified by Petronas for the US$1.5 billion Kasawari central processing platform (CPP) contract.
AmResearch Sdn Bhd (AmResearch) noted that the three parties are South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries Co Ltd, a joint venture between Italy’s Saipem SpA and SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd, and a partnership between France’s Technip SA and Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Bhd (MMHE).
“We understand the bidding is in progress and is currently being evaluated.
“The contract could be awarded sometime in April. Berlian McDermott, a joint venture between TH Heavy Engineering Bhd and Houston-based McDermott International Inc, did not progress beyond the prequalifying stage of this contest,” said AmResearch.

Rafizi to fight for viable retail oil industry
March 17, 2015Why the long faces? Oil prices go up and down. When they go back up to USD100 this 2H2015, will there be an outcry from the retailers?
Dateline 2015-01-08, FMT:
Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli has warned that profit margins in the retail oil industry are being squeezed between advance purchases of oil by station owners, reduction in pump prices at monthly intervals as the oil market declines, and government taxes.
He called for pump prices to be fixed on a weekly basis and station operators be allowed to collect petrol and diesel supplies on a consignment basis as the practice is elsewhere in the world.

Petronas may slash domestic investment 30 pct as crude slumps -sources
March 15, 2015Dateline 2015-01-07, Reuters:
Malaysian state oil firm Petronas may slash capital expenditure even more than it has signalled because the continuing rout in oil prices has hurt revenue, with domestic spending facing cuts of about 30 percent, sources said on Wednesday.
Some domestic and international projects that may become unprofitable due to the continued decline in oil prices could be shelved by Petronas, or Petroliam Nasional Bhd, three sources with knowledge of the matter said.

Ba’Kelalan people demand dialogue with Petronas
March 14, 2015Tell me if I’m wrong, but isn’t one point of contention that the local people are habituating PETRONAS’ right of way land illegally? And because this is a sensitive issue, PETRONAS is in a lose-lose situation, up the proverbial creek without a poodle?
Dateline 2015-01-06, FMT:
The people in Ba’Kelalan, a stone’s throw from the Sabah-Sarawak interstate gas pipeline, are demanding a promised report and dialogue on the explosion in June last year at a section between Lawas and Long Sukang. They have lived in fear for their safety ever since that day.
The fiery explosion, heard some 12km away in Lawas, forced a temporary shutdown of the RM4 billion-project.
They do not rule out public protests should Petronas start shipping gas via the pipeline next month to South Korea and Japan as the local grapevine has it.
Ba’Kelalan Assemblyman Baru Bian, raising the issue, disclosed that the soil where the explosion occurred may not be firm as it was “still moving”.
“We are certainly concerned about our safety, especially the villagers in my village which is just 3km from the project,” said Baru who confirmed that he would support any public protests against the pipeline. “Some parts of the pipeline were exposed above ground.
