From the Daily Express – Quarter of the nation’s crude oil from Sabah

January 23, 2011

Dateline 2011-01-09:

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah contributed more than quarter of the nation’s crude oil last year.

Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the State chipped in about 26.9 per cent of the country’s overall crude oil output, which totaled more than 637,000 drums daily.

The oil and gas industry was one of the main contributors to Sabah’s economic sustainability, he said, adding many large-scale projects in the sector have been developed.

“These includes the Kikeh Oil Field, which is the first offshore deepwater oil field in Malaysia and the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) in Kimanis as the industry’s hub in the State’s West Coast,” he said during the Petronas Petroleum Technology Institute (Instep) 2010 Convocation, Saturday.

“I am confident the sector has the potential to grow even further in future.”

In the same breath, Musa said such development could only be achieved with skilled and experienced labour such as those produced by national oil company Petronas.

From Bernama – PM Announces Another 19 Entry Point Projects Under ETP

January 18, 2011

When will Bernama stop preventing a direct copy and paste from these websites? The food stall workers across the road are getting mighty fluent in English as they type this excerpt out for peanuts.

Dateline 2011-01-11:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Tuesday announced 19 more Entry Point Projects (EPPs) under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).

He said the projects would generate almost RM67 billion in investments, RM36 billion in gross national income and create 35,000 new jobs.

Since the launch of ETP on Oct 25 last year, 18 EPPs have been previously announced.

In a media briefing here, the prime minister said the 19 EPPs and development projects would come from 10 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs), led by four EPPs under the oil, gas and energy NKEA.

He said ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc, together with its production sharing contract partner Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, planned to invest over RM10 billion in new oil and gas assets to help ensure reliable and sustainable energy supplies for Malaysia.

The old form is still acceptable, as that is what I received in the mail.

Donations of USD5 per copy used are acceptable, though the going rate is usually USD8.

Kelantan claims RM800m per annum oil royalty

August 2, 2010

Taken from the Malaysian Insider, dateline 2010-08-30:

The Kelantan state government claims PETRONAS owes the state RM800 million per annum from the Kelantan-Thailand offshore area since 2005.

The Kelantan government filed a suit today at the High Court here against the oil giant for breaching the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974 by failing to pay the state oil royalties.

“The worth of condensate (gas liquid) comes to about US$8.5 billion per annum from the joint development offshore area with Thailand,” said state executive councillor Datuk Husam Musa.

“Five per cent of that belongs to Malaysia, which is RM1.7 billion. Half of that belongs to Kelantan which is RM800 million. Petronas owes Kelantan RM800 million per annum since 2005,” he added.

The Kelantan state government said today that Petronas owes the state oil royalties from at least four offshore areas from which oil has been extracted from. These are Kelantan, Kelantan-Thailand, Kelantan-Vietnam and Kelantan-Terengganu.

The SOGE Office – A Fuller Office

April 7, 2009

Another Photosynth view of the office. We’re getting a bit more fuller, and I suppose we have enough money to pay for the rent and the lights. We’d like some more work during these trying times.

Sorry for the lack of news. Been kinda distracted, and out of the country.

Malaysian Elections 2008 – My tiny piece of the pie

March 9, 2008

Today is the day after, day after Malaysians went out and put their pens where their mouths are, to mangle a phrase. There will be commentary on the results all day long.

Malaysian elections equal no shutdown work?

March 3, 2008

Petronas has asked its Production Sharing Contractors (PSC) to defer any shutdown work that might result in gas production cutback till after the Malaysian elections on March 8th, 2008. Is there a concern that a gas shortfall could result in an blackout prior to the elections?

Peninsular Malaysia’s raw gas supply comes from offshore gas fields. The gas is collected into two gas networks and sent to either the Onshore Gas Terminal (OGT) or Onshore Slug Catcher (OSC) in Kertih, Terengganu on the Peninsular’s east coast.

Trivia: Fresh, raw oysters are served in Kertih!

Kelantan: New Budget?

March 2, 2008

Malaysia will undergo its 12th election this March 8, 2008. The state of Kelantan is the only state whose administration is led by a non-member party of Barisan National, the ruling coalition.

To quote an article from today’s Sunday Star, ‘Kelantan … (currently) gets an annual allocation of RM400mil (from the Federal government).’

Continuing the article, ‘state Barisan chairman … said the Prime Minister had already promised Kelantan a special allocation and an expanded budget of RM1bil annually.’ I’ll assume that this means that the state will get an expanded budget if Barisan National wins a majority in the state elections.

Would that mean that Kelantan has been under-budgeted all this time?
