Oil and gas giant awards scholarships to Malaysian UQ health and safety students

PETRONAS, the Malaysian oil and gas giant has recently awarded scholarships to four Malaysian students studying occupational health and safety science at the University of Queensland.

The students, Nurul Jasmine Shaifful Anuar, Crystal Lwi, Ying Huei Ho and Huey Fang Woo have been awarded the prestigious academic scholarships.

The University of Queensland is recognised as one of the world’s top 100 ranked universities. The university’s Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety Science (Honours) is unique in Australia.

Big INSTEP forward with 579 grads — Jabu

The graduation of 579 Sarawakians from Institut Teknologi Petroleum Petronas (INSTEP), with its world-class technical education in oil and gas, is a big step forward for the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang said the way forward is to place emphasis on technical and vocational education to build up the fledgling market of expertise for the industry.

“Continue with this great effort to train more Sarawakian youths. If possible, increase the intake of students from rural areas,” said Jabu in his speech.

As an example, he added that his area Betong has 22 secondary schools which can provide a good source of Form Five school-leavers to be trained and then marketed into various industries in Malaysia or overseas.

Explain fuel price hike, DAP tells Putrajaya

Whine, whine. Remember, this is post-Budget 2016.

Putrajaya must explain the petrol price hike this month, when global crude oil price continues to fall, DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) said today.

The party Youth wing’s publicity chief, Junz Wong, said there was no reason for the government to raise the fuel price by 10 sen per litre.

“Brent crude oil price closed at US$48.20 a barrel yesterday, according to Reuters, about 10% lower than last month.

“Malaysians should be looking forward to cheaper oil prices in 2015 as there were no signs of recovery in the price of oil,” said Wong in a statement today.

Lundin Petroleum resumes exploration drilling in Malaysia with the Mengkuang-1 well

Lundin Petroleum AB (Lundin Petroleum) is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary Lundin Malaysia BV (Lundin Malaysia) has resumed exploration drilling in Malaysia with the spud of Mengkuang-1 exploration well in license PM307, offshore Malaysia.

The well will target hydrocarbons in Miocene aged sands 75 km to the northwest of the Bertam field operated by Lundin Malaysia.

Mengkuang-1 will be drilled with the West Prospero jack-up rig to a total depth of approximately 1,300 metres below mean sea level. The drilling of the well is expected to take approximately 30 days.

Lundin Malaysia holds 75 percent working interest in PM307. Partner is PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd with 25 percent working interest. Lundin Malaysia operates six blocks in Malaysia, namely PM307, PM319, PM308A, PM308B, PM328 and SB307/308.

Shell to cut 1,300 jobs in Malaysia over two years

On the tail of the previous article, Shell continues stride with deepwater projects

Dateline 2015-09-29, Fuelfix:

Royal Dutch Shell’s oil unit in Malaysia said it will cut 1,300 jobs, or about 20 percent of its Malaysian workforce, over the next two years as it restructures itself.

Shell Malaysia said Tuesday it is trying to become a more efficient company but gave few details beyond disclosing the coming staff reductions. It said it has made “adjustments” to its upstream portfolio but didn’t elaborate.

“Shell Malaysia is preparing itself to be more competitive in a low oil price environment,” Shell Malaysia Chairman Iain Lo said in a written statement. “Continuing business as usual is not sustainable. We are taking difficult, but necessary action.”
