Malaysian regulator rejects $317 mln oil and gas IPO – IFR

November 2, 2014

Why now? Did Matrix not have access to the right pockets? Please note the words ‘blank cheque’.

Dateline 2014-08-15, Reuters:

Malaysia’s securities regulator rejected a $317 million initial public offering of Matrix Capacity Petroleum, IFR reported on Friday, citing a source familiar with the deal.

The deal would be the biggest in the country for a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), also known as blank check IPOs because companies raise money through the stock market without a single asset on their books.

Matrix Capacity planned to launch the IPO in the second half of 2014 and use the funds to buy oil and gas assets, added IFR, a Thomson Reuters publication. Malaysia’s Securities Commission didn’t immediately return a request for comment on the decision, IFR said.

UPKO tells PETRONAS to stay out

November 1, 2014

Yeah, PETRONAS. I’d set up some more security around Menara PETRONAS, in case there are ‘untold incidents’. Or move Menara further into the suburbs.

Dateline 2014-08-14, Free Malaysia Today:

The United Pasok Momogun KadazanDusunMurut Organisation (Upko), which recently urged the federal government to hand over its five per cent oil royalty to the Sabah government has come up with new demands.

The party now wants Petronas, the national corporation, to confine itself to the peninsula if it can’t meet a 20 per cent oil royalty demand by Sabah.

It also wants the National Petroleum Advisory Council, provided under Clause (5) of the Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA), to be set up as soon as possible.

Petrovietnam eyes stake in Murphy Oil’s Malaysian assets

October 30, 2014

Dateline 2014-08-14, Reuters:

Petrovietnam has bid for a stake in Murphy Oil Corp’s Malaysian oil and gas assets, challenging other suitors including Mitsubishi Corp and Indian state oil companies, a person with direct knowledge of the plan said.

The state oil company’s bid comes as Vietnam, the third largest holder of crude oil reserves in Asia, seeks to reverse a steady decline in its oil output over the past decade. Murphy Oil and other U.S. oil companies are reducing overseas holdings as oil and gas exploration prospects improve at home.
