ExxonMobil starts production from Telok B platform

ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc. (ExxonMobil), a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation plans to kick-start natural gas production from the second phase of Telok gas development project located off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
In a press release on Thursday, the company said the project comprises of two satellite platforms namely Telok A and Telok B which together are able to produce more than 450mil cubic feet per day of natural gas.
”The Telok field was developed under a gas production sharing contract between ExxonMobil, as the operator, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, and Petronas to help meet demand for natural gas in Peninsular Malaysia,” it said.

IEM Shout Out – Technical Writing Workshop
June 8, 2015This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division will hosting the above seminar on the 11th June, presented by Ratnavathy Ragunathan and Ir. Danaraj Chandrasegaran.
This one-day workshop is designed to help you develop skills that will enable you to produce clear and effective technical documents. We will focus on the basic principles of good writing which technical writing shares with other forms of writing and on types of documents common in technical fields and organizations. While the emphasis will be on writing of technical information, oral communication will also form an important component of the course as well.
Ir. Danaraj Chandrasegaran graduated from University Teknologi Malaysia in 2001 with Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Hons). Subsequently, pursued his Master Degree in University of Malaya. He has published in international journals and conferences in the past. His career has a diverse outlook on project execution ranging from building construction, marine, mining and energy industry; as a mechanical engineer. Currently is Section Head Material Handling & Human Factors Engineering at Technip Malaysia.
Ratnavathy Ragunathan graduated with B. Sc. (Computer Sc.) from University Putra Malaysia in 2002 and subsequently obtained M. Ed. (TESL), University of Malaya in 2012. She worked for both the industry and academia focusing on English Language teaching for adults and professionals. Her specialties are on Business English and Communication Skills; also a Cambridge ESOL Certified Speaking Examiner. She has developed curriculums, written articles and presented papers on English Teaching with an global outlook . Currently, she is engaged with one of the leading English Language Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia’s Johor govt investment arm looking to expand in oil & gas

Johor state-owned investment arm Johor Corp (JCorp) is looking to expand its participation in the oil and gas (O&G) sector through its subsidiary companies, especially EA Technique, local reports quoted Johor chief minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin as saying.
“E.A. Technique currently possesses 33 marine vessels including its latest offshore storage vessel namely the FOIS Nautica Tembikai.“With the new vessel set to sail along with its six-year contact valued at $63m, the company is well on its way to expansion,” he said.
Khaled said the Johor state government was also looking at providing better infrastructure within the Iskandar region especially at Pasir Gudang, where domestic and international trading activities thrive.
New hotel and commercial area in Pengerang

A hotel and commercial area for entrepreneurs utilising compact containers as their structures will make their debut in Pengerang by the end of the year.
The joint venture between Perisind Samudra Sdn Bhd and PIJ Holdings Sdn Bhd is part of the upcoming Pengerang Oil and Gas City project.
Among other things, it will comprise 400 units of the Lakeview Terrace hotel, which offers premium accommodation for the growing work force in Pengerang.
Perisind Samudra chief executive officer Mohd Shafiee Mohd Sanip said there was a big demand for accommodation from workers in multinational companies who were now involved in the development of the oil and gas hub in Pengerang.

Malaysia will be Asia’s biogas hub by 2030

MALAYSIA’S minister of science, technology and innovation, Datuk Ewon Ebin, has told a major conference that the country will be Asia’s biogas hub by 2030.
Datuk Ewon Ebin was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Biogas Asia Pacific Forum 2015, held from 28–29 April 2015 in Selangor, Malaysia, where industry majors met to discuss development strategies in the Asia Pacific Forum. Topics this year included commercialisation, feedstock management, anaerobic digestion and biogas upgrading. The minister said that Malaysia will become the region’s lead biogas exporter to the global market.
According to The Star, Datuk Ewon Ebin said that Malaysia has huge potential biogas resources, particularly from its palm oil industry, which covers 5m ha of land. Biogas generated from palm oil mill effluent can be upgraded to fuel cars and industrial applications, although Malaysia must aim to prove the viability of the upgrading process, he added. As the industry adopts biotechnology, he expects production to grow. At present, the industry is worth RM1.46bn (US$410.1m).

ETP : OGE NKEAs Met Its 2014 KPIs

The oil, gas and energy (OGE) National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs) has met all its 2014 key performance indicators (KPIs) due to closer collaboration between various stakeholders.
“The clear aim of meeting the year’s KPIs drove relevant agencies to work collaboratively to address and resolve issues within aggressive timeframes,” Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) 2014 annual report said.
Under the OGE NKEAs, the report has outlined key takeaways for 13 entry point projects (EPPs) including rejuvenating existing fields via enhanced oil recovery (EOR), developing marginal fields, intensifying exploration activities, encouraging investments in the oil and gas (O&G) services and attracting multinational companies (MNCs) to set up operations in Malaysia.
Under the EPP 1: Rejuvenating Existing Fields, the KPI achieved for 2014 was 37.9 million stock tank barrel (MMstb) from 15 MMstb targeted in addition resources.

Gas Malaysia partners Sime Darby Offshore

Gas Malaysia Bhd has partnered with Sime Darby Offshore Engineering Sdn Bhd to undertake a biogas compressed natural gas distribution business extracted from the palm oil mill effluent.
In a statement to Bursa Malaysia on Tuesday, Gas Malaysia said the joint venture would involve the provision of the sale, supply and transportation of BioCNG to customers and carrying out of the design, construction, installation, commissioning and operation of pressure regulating unit at each customer’s premises.
Gas Malaysia said the tie-up was formed as both parties seek to optimize the combined strengths of each partner.
