Terminal 3 Subang

July 8, 2009

Since I have a feeling I’ll be travelling frequently (is “be frequently travelling” a split infinitive?) back and forth between Kerteh and KL via Firefly, here’s what Skypark (Terminal 3 to us old timers) looks like at 6 in the morning.

Need Help – Thermal Radiation of an Exhaust Plume

July 5, 2009

Does anyone know if there are models that can cater for the above scenario? I’m not talking about calculating from first priciples (radiation models, summation of source radiation points, that sort of thing).

IEM Shout Out – Steam Boiler Course and Scenario Thinking

July 4, 2009

This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division will be having a talk on the 7th July. It’ll be at 5:30 pm (makan-makan at 5:00) at Wisma IEM. That’s right people, as part of the new health drive you are required to walk up 3 flights of stairs to get your 2 CPD points.

It is a truism that the future is unpredictable. However, its development can be better anticipated through developing and using scenarios. Scenarios are stories about different and plausible futures that can be created using the powerful scenario thinking and planning tools. They assist the decision makers and business planners to be more anticipative and adaptive to the changes and critical uncertainties impacting their businesses as they navigate the future.

The above will be presented by Victor Foo, and has been jointly organised by the Society of Institution of Engineers Australia

Also, my Tech Division is hosting a steam boiler operations & maintenance course as well. It’s at ILSAS, on the 7-8 July, 2009.

  • Chapter 1 – Factories and Machinery Act, 1967
  • Chapter 2 – Introduction to Steam Boilers
  • Chapter 3 – Boiler Operations and Trouble-shootings
  • Chapter 4 – Boiler Water Treatments
  • Chapter 5 – An Introduction to Combustion
  • Chapter 6 – Boiler Maintenance and Repairs
  • Chapter 7 – Non-Destructive Testing and Basic of Metallurgy
  • Chapter 8 – Steam Boiler Failures

The above will be presented by Ir. Mohd Normarzuki Ya’acob.

Fliers for the above and other events may be obtained here.

Sigh, since I have moved with Synergy out of KL, will you patronise Chee Meng in my memory? Or invite me to meetings around Bukit Bintang at lunchtime? Is he doing packet specials?

Maybe I should change loyalty to Pakeeza, which is a bit closer to the office.

OGA 2009 Swag Bag

June 19, 2009

I didn’t get to go round to a lot booths and pavilions this year. Managed to grab some yummies (that’s snacks and premium coffee) here and there, but the take away this year was a bit thin.

From the NST – PETRONAS Promises to Spend

June 17, 2009

Dateline 2009-06-13, taken from the New Straits Times:

Hassan: No cutback in PETRONAS spending:

Petroliam National Bhd (PETRONAS) has not reduced any spending in the oil & gas sector, pledging a commitment of some RM35 billion for the exploration and production activities this year.

I think that PETRONAS might have held back a wee  bit on local crude brownfield debottlenecking and production enhancement projects since the beginning of this year, but that’s me. I actually missed their booth at this year’s OGA, and I sincerely apologise.
