From the Star – Clearer outlook for Dialog’s RM5bil terminal project

May 22, 2011

Dateline 2011-05-14:

THE road ahead for Dialog Group Bhd seems clearer now that it has attained approvals from the Department of Environment for the detailed environmental impact assessment (EIA) for its RM5bil independent deepwater terminal project in Pengerang, Johor.

The company told Bursa Malaysia this week that it had obtained the approval in April and analysts expect the tender for the earthworks reclamation to be completed in June.

Dialog signed a memorandum of understanding in 2009 with Dutch-based Royal Vopak and Johor State Secretary Incorporated to own and operate a deepwater petroleum terminal with harbour port, jetty and other marine facilities with water depth up to 26 meters.

The depth of the water allows for ultra large crude carriers, very large crude carriers and other vessels to access the port, and also for tankage facilities for the handling, storage, processing and distribution of crude oil, petroleum, petrochemicals and chemical products in Tanjung Ayam and Tanjung Kapal, Pengerang.

May 20, 2011

From Bernama, dateline 2011-05-11:

The call made by the Sabah Oil and Gas Contractors’ Association to the government to review the Petroleum Act 1974 must be discussed first before such a motion is tabled in Parliament.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said that it was only sensible that the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties and its members of parliament get feedback from various interest groups before making a decision on the matter.

The association recently called on Sabah MPs to help push through the matter as the Act has to be amended to enable Petronas to channel project contracts directly to the domestic industry in Sabah and not through main contractors from Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
