Malaysia’s state-owned Petronas has completed its first commercial gassing up and cooling down service at the Bintulu LNG export plant in northern Borneo, adding to the company’s portfolio of LNG-related services in Southeast Asia.

The operation, which consists of cooling down an LNG carrier’s tanks to cryogenic temperature after dry-docking and before loading its next cargo, was performed on the vessel Singapore Energy in approximately 11 hours, Petronas said in a statement on Monday


STAR: Sarawak should get part of Petronas dividend

Sarawak should have a fair share of the RM30 billion special dividend that state-owned Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) will pay to the federal government, State Reform Party (STAR) president Lina Soo said today.

She said Sarawak is producing as much as 800,000 boe (barrel oil equivalent) per day, and with the oil price hovering around US$77 per barrel, it is equivalent to RM250 million on a daily basis.

Malaysia should leverage on its strong biodiesel exports and be more aggressive in the implementation of its B10 biodiesel mandate, according to Sathia Varqa, owner and co-founder of Singapore-based Palm Oil Analytics (POA).

“Malaysia is not only late, but is missing the window of opportunity since April when crude palm oil (CPO) started to become cheaper than gas oil (diesel),” Varqa told theedgemarkets.com.

Azmin: Govt needs to ‘recalibrate’ finances before paying oil royalty

Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali today said that the government needs to recalibrate its finances first before it can pay the balance of the oil royalty payment owed to the Terengganu due to the nation’s current fiscal position.

During his winding up speech on the Midterm Review of the 11th Malaysian Plan (RMK11), Azmin said the federal government is not delaying the payment but had no choice and had to “recallibrate its finances”.

“I give my commitment that the new government under the leadership of His Most Honourable Langkawi will ensure we keep our promises,” Azmin replied to Kuala Nerus MP (PAS) Datuk Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali who wanted to know when the state will receive its Petronas oil royalty.

Petronas Dagangan Bhd has announced that there will be no price increase for its Gas Petronas Home Delivery (GPHD) service and the delivery charges remain the same.

The decision was made after taking into consideration public feedback and concerns on the adjustment of the delivery charges, it said in a statement today.


Commercial gas production begins at Malaysia’s Beryl gas field

JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration started commercial gas production from the Beryl gas field offshore Sarawak in Malaysia last month, the Japanese company said on Tuesday.

Beryl lies in the shallow waters of Block SK10.

Output will be supplied via undersea pipelines to Malaysia LNG’s Tiga plant in Bintulu, which is partly owned by JX Nippon Oil & Energy.
