Petronas has escalated its long-running dispute with the Sarawak state government, seeking judicial relief against 120 million ringgit ($29.9 million) in penalties imposed on five of its subsidiaries — a move that places the Bintulu LNG complex firmly at the heart of a widening contest over gas governance in Malaysia’s most important producing state.
The companies — including the national oil company’s upstream division, Petronas Carigali, as well as Malaysia LNG, Malaysia LNG Dua, Malaysia LNG Tiga and Petronas LNG 9 — jointly applied to the High Court in Kuching, Sarawak, for permission to pursue a judicial review of the fines.
