Rumor Mill – Downstream Going For PETRONAS Licensing?


During a conversation I had with a random person off the street, the person mentioned that they had discussions with one of PETRONAS‘s downstream companies. The person on the other side of the table said that they would be looking to follow upstream regulations, that is interested suppliers of services and products would need a PETRONAS license.

Those of you in the industry know that for downstream vendors, a PETRONAS registration is sufficient, and not as onerous as a  license.

So, is the rumor true? Will all us small guys have to comply with the license requirements? Should I jump into downstream activites, and earn my 50% markup as a license holder? Or should I go for 100% markup, and a night at Sofitel New York?
