I was recently down at ILSAS to discuss the ongoing training collaboration between them and the IEM. I took the opportunity to make a Photosynth view of the Admin Building’s main foyer.
Please support the IEM, my technical division (Oil, Gas and Mining) and my ego by becoming members of the IEM, and sending you and your staff to our events. Flyers may be obtained here.

Mr Wata,
What’s the difference between IEM & BEM? Both have different websites and acronyms but BEM trainings are on IEM training webpage.
And it’s quite long to get the Graduate Engineer application with BEM. How about IEM’s?
Now I’m waiting for my GE application with BEM, will my attendance to the IEM courses/trainings adds to my CPD approved hours? Or it won’t be counted as I’m not yet qualified for the IR assessment stuff?
I’m quite loss with this thing.
Thanks for your advice.
vex: short answer, BEM is a regulatory body, by law you need to register with BEM within 6 months of working as an engineer (that means you have ‘engineer’ in your job title). After you get your registration letter with the BEM, you can apply to become a graduate member of the IEM. IEM is a learned institute, to further your engineer knowledge, and an opportunity to meet and learn from other members.
The IEM is delegated to run BEM mandatory courses, that’s why BEM courses are listed on the IEM website. I think you need to registered with the BEM first before courses hours are counted, because if you don’t register, then those courses can be lumped with your degree learning courses.
