First off, if you need my help to submit your CVs, donate to the blog, and I’ll review your CV to see if it is worthy of my (and my associates’) expectations. If you can’t figure out how to donate, you are definitely Cylon fodder.

    Hi Sir,

i have just graduated last year and currently attached to a local oil and gas consultancy company for about a year now. im planning to move on because of my company’s situation (not much of job lately-many of my seniors have left due to this). is it advisable not to hop as i have only a year of experience? but i havent been doing anything in office for almost a month and i dont want to be not doing anything. i want to learn and absorb everything i can while im at junior level. have tried looking for better opportunity but most of the companies are either looking for senior position or at least 2 years of experience. any advice/recommendation sir?

    thanks.

Hello Charlotte. I presume Jabba will step up sometime and give you more detailed advice. My take on the current Malaysian O&G situation is that we are approaching or in a low local work period at the moment, where companies that are locally focused having a hard time. I think your seniors have moved to international jobs, where the client is only willing to pay for experience. My suggestion: if you are going to stay in consultancy, I would wait for another 2 months before deciding to move. If you want to move to an operating company, keep on applying now due to the current crude prices rebooting the industry in general, and operators will want to try and get talent while it is cheap.

Thanks sir. i guess i will just have to wait and at the same time keep applying. wish me luck!

Yes, Jabba will give some advice.

Currently, Jabba likes people looking to learn more. I guess what you need to do is try networking, know more people and then jump.

    Advice:
    1. Find out where you want to jump. Like Meatloaf once sang “Out of the pan and into the fire”.
    2. Know more people and find out what’s suitable,
