Indonesia to import 600,000 oil barrels from Sudan

February 13, 2010

A taste of what Malaysia will undergo soon.

February 5, 2010 (JAKARTA) – Indonesian state-owned oil company PT Pertamina said it had obtained a permit from the trade minister to import 600,000 barrels of “Nile Blend” crude from Sudan.

Oil production in Indonesia has decreased steadily during the last decade, owing to disappointing exploration efforts and declining production at Indonesia’s large, mature oil fields.

In 2008, Sudan exported the majority of its oil to China (214,000 bbl/d) followed by Japan (102,000 bbl/d) and Indonesia (43,000 bbl/d). Additional importers of Sudanese crude include India, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysia

From Brunei fm – Johor to be Oil & Gas Hub

February 11, 2010

Here’s a new source of information, Brunei fm, dateline 2010-02-03:

JOHOR BAHARU, MALAYSIA, Feb 3 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Plans by the southern Malaysian state of Johor to become the western Pacific region’s leading oil and gas hub by 2025 will receive a major boost with the opening of a speciality steel pipe manufacturing plant in the state this weekend.

The 250 million Ringgit (one USD = about 3.4 Ringgit) investment by Erndtebrucker Eisenwerk GmbH & Co KG (EEW) of Germany, is the first of several major new investments in the state’s oil and gas sector.

Anyone visit Johor often?

From Pipeline International – Trans Oriental

February 10, 2010

Ah, some interesting tech news, dateline 2010-02-03:

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Trans-Oriental Gas Pipeline (TOGP) has been signed between Distinct Objective Sdn Bhd (DOSB), Asia Consortium Petroleum Engineering and Gas, Messrs Enmac Sekutu Sdn Bhd, China’s Panyu Chu Kong Steel Pipe Co and Dongah Tec of Korea.

Under the agreement, approximately 4,000 km of subsea natural gas pipeline, extending from Malaysia to South Korea, will be constructed.

DOSB will build a 2,500 km section of pipeline running from offshore Pahang, Malaysia to north Vietnam.

I take that back, some interesting political news. From offshore Pahang… wonder where our PM hails from, think it was coastline province of one state on the east coast.

From Reuter, dateline 2010-02-04, article with facts on PETRONAS.

No mention the Jabba runs the place, and has hidden pleasure domes and torture chambers? Hidden torture chambers, heck he has them out in the open, though he calls them ‘service station rest rooms’.

IEM Shout Out – Electrical Reliability Mindset in The Petrochem, O&Gas Plant Industries

February 8, 2010

This is a shout out for the IEM. A Technical Division will hosting the above talk on the 9th February, 2010. It’ll be at 6:00 pm (makan-makan at 5:30) at Wisma IEM. That’s right people, as part of the new health drive you are required to walk up 3 flights of stairs to get your 2 CPD points.

The full title of the talk is An Evening Talk, “Introduction of Electrical Reliability Mindset to The Petrochemical, Oil, and Gas Plant Industries”. The speaker, MR. JIM WARDHAUGH graduated from University of Liverpool, is a Chartered Engineer, and spent about 10 years in utilities then about 30 years with Shell. He has demonstrated success in senior management and hands-on positions in many different roles (projects, construction, maintenance, technical, inspection, warehousing, transport, quality, and training) in a number of different countries; in each a step-change improvement in performance was achieved.

Fliers for the above and other events may be obtained here. A map to Wisma IEM is presented here. It’s the building identified as ‘Puteri Nursing College.’

From Reuters – Malaysia? No Gas!

February 7, 2010

Taken from Reuters, dateline 2010-02-04:

Malaysia, looking to attract foreign investment, vowed to allocate more of its natural gas output to manufacturers but said it could not provide gas to companies starting new businesses in the Southeast Asian country.

International Trade and Industries Minister Mustapa Mohamad said on Thursday that 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, or 5 percent of daily output, would be redistributed to non-power industries until 2011.

There goes my dreams of taking Synergy into the manufacturing industry, sigh… maybe I should hook up some plumbing to the business end of cows, and market that as ‘Malaysia’s gas lifesaver!’. I wonder how much methane they produce? Or should I focus on karibau?
