Commercial oil production begins at Layang field offshore Malaysia

JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation’s subsidiary, JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia) Limited, the Operator of Block SK10 offshore Sarawak, Malaysia together with PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, commenced commercial oil production from Layang Field on 3 December 2019.
Layang Field (“Layang”), in addition to its natural gas production since May 2017, commenced oil production by using a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading System (FPSO) named “FPSO Helang”.


JX Nippon to develop and produce oil and gas from Beryl Gas Field

Mr. Shunsaku Miyake, President and CEO of JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation is pleased to announce that PETROLIAM NASIONAL BERHAD (“PETRONAS”), the national oil company of Malaysia, has agreed for JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia) Limited (President and CEO, Hironori Wasada, “NOMA”) to be entitled to the oil and gas rights of Beryl Gas Field (“Beryl”), and approved the Field Development Plan (“FDP”) for Beryl on 27th October 2017.

Beryl, an already discovered but undeveloped gas field, lies in the shallower zone in the same location as the underlying Helang Gas Field (“Helang”) and Layang Oil and Gas Field (“Layang”) in Block SK10, Offshore Sarawak, for which NOMA has been conducting production operation as operator. NOMA, in accordance with the aforementioned approved FDP, will utilize existing Helang facilities to develop Beryl economically and within a short period of time, with Beryl first gas scheduled for November 2018.


Yinson to Take Over Layang FPSO from THHE

THEE (sic), which has the Layang FPSO contract with Japan’s JX Nippon. has applied to Kuala Lumpur High Court, Malaysia to allow it novate the contract and deliver the vessel to Yinson.
Yinson has confirmed this in the Bursa Malaysia filing on Wednesday, saying it has no objection to the THHE application.
The charter contract — which is for EPCIC and leasing of a floating production storage and offloading facility to be deployed at the Layang field in Block SK10, offshore Miri, Sarawak — was initially made between JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia) Ltd and THHE.

 


First gas from Layang Field of Block SK10 offshore Sarawak, Malaysia

Mr. Shunsaku Miyake, President and CEO of JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation is pleased to announce that its subsidiary JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia) Limited, the Operator of Block SK10 offshore Sarawak, Malaysia with a participating interest of 75%, commenced commercial gas production from Layang Field on 28 May, 2017.

Layang Field is located approximately 7 km east of the producing Helang Gas Field in Block SK10. Natural gas produced from Layang Field, together with natural gas from Helang Gas Field, will be supplied through subsea pipelines to the MLNG Tiga Sdn. Bhd. liquefaction plant in Bintulu, Sarawak, which is partly owned by JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation. The natural gas will be sold as LNG after liquefaction to its customers including buyers in Japan.

 


Malaysia’s THHE Receives More Winding-Up Calls

Malaysia’s TH Heavy Engineering Berhad, a fabricator of offshore oil and gas facilities, disclosed Friday that winding-up petitions against the firm have been presented July 26 to The Kuala Lumpur High Court of Malaya from two companies for work completed, including that for a floating production facility to be deployed to the Layang field in Block SK10 off Sarawak, it said in separate filings with local stock exchange Bursa Malaysia.

The first winding-up petition was served by Nusapetro Sdn Bhd, with the firm seeking $399,001 (MYR 1,605,285), inclusive of interest rate, from TTHE. Nusapetro said the amount is for the supply of API610 centrifugal pumps package for the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) Layang project.

Bicara Sepakat Sdn Bhd also submitted a winding-up petition against TTHE’s 70 percent owned subsidiary THHE Fabricators Sdn Bhd, claiming $238,830.69 (MYR 960,877.98) inclusive of interest rate for the provision of piping fabrication, installation, hydrotest and reinstatement works.

“Except for the amount claimed, THHE is not expected to incur any further losses from the winding-up petition,” TTHE said in separate announcements, adding that it will seek necessary legal advice on the matter with a view of defeating the petition.

TH Heavy Engineering Berhad, an offshore oil and gas facilities fabricator, clarified Tuesday that the firm is not aware of the one year extension given by Japan’s JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia) Ltd. to complete the floating, production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit for the Layang field in Block SK10 offshore Sarawak, Malaysia as reported May 28 by a local media, it said in a filing on Bursa Malaysia.


Japan’s JX to develop Malaysia’s Layang gas field

JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corp said on Monday it had decided to develop Layang gas field off the coast of the Malaysian state of Sarawak on Borneo island for an undisclosed sum, aiming to start production in April-June 2016.

Layang field, which is located about 8 km (5 miles) east of Helang gas field, now under production, in the same SK10 block, will have a floating production, storage andoffloading system (FPSO) installed, the company, a wholly-owned unit of JX Holdings, said in a statement.
