Japan’s Inpex secures two offshore blocks in Malaysia in gas expansion bid

Inpex 1605.T, Japan’s top exploration and production company, has secured new production sharing agreements with Malaysian companies Petronas and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) located offshore of the state of Sarawak, Inpex said on Wednesday.

Companies from Japan, a resource-poor nation, are trying to expand their presence in global fossil fuel projects, from oil to liquefied natural gas, and are also developing renewable energy, including at home, to diversify energy sources.


Inpex and Petros to jointly pursue CCS development in Malaysia

Japan’s exploration and production company Inpex has signed a joint collaboration agreement with Malaysian oil and gas exploration firm Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) for the potential development of a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in Sarawak, Malaysia.

The CCS project will target CO2 emitted from gas fields with high concentrations of CO2, petrochemical industries, power plants, manufacturing industries and other sources in Sarawak.

Inpex Corporation has announced that through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Inpex Offshore South West Sabah, Ltd., it has reached an agreement to transfer 10 per cent of its participating interest in the Deepwater Block R to Santos Sabah Block R Limited

The block is located in offshore East Malaysia covers an area of 672 square kilometres with a water depth ranging from 100m to 1,400 metres

Santos Sabah Block R Limited also separately agreed to acquire a 10 per cent participating interest in the block from JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Deepwater Sabah), Limited (JX), bringing its total participating interest in the block to 20 per cent upon fulfilment of due procedures.

 


Japan’s Inpex to sell 25 pct of Malaysia oil block stake to Santos

Japan’s Inpex Corp said on Monday it has agreed to sell a 25 percent stake in the deep water Block S in offshore Malaysia to Australian oil and gas producer Santos Ltd.

Japan’s biggest oil and gas producer, which will reduce its stake in the block to 50 percent after the transfer, serves as the operator in the block located in eastern Malaysia. An Inpex spokeswoman declined to comment on the price.

Inpex has conducted a three-dimensional seismic survey and geological studies in Block S, and depending on the result, it plans to drill wildcat wells this year for new discovery of oil and natural gas deposits, the company said in a statement.

 


Japan’s Inpex wins stakes in two Malaysian oil prospects

Japanese oil and gas explorer Inpex Corp has won stakes in two oil and gas exploration licences offshore Sabah from Petronas, Malaysia’s national oil company.

Petronas selected a four-year work programme Inpex had proposed to explore in deepwater blocks R and S, 180 km west and 120km northwest off the coast of Kota Kinabalu, an Inpex spokesman said.

Separately, Petronas said the minimum financial commitment for the two blocks are $123 million and $72 million respectively.

In Block S Inpex has a 75 percent interest and as the licence operator plans to drill two exploration wells in around 2014. The costs will be shared with Petronas, which has a 25 percent interest.
