IEM Shout Out – Family Day

I don’t know how I managed to miss this. The IEM family day is  happening this Sunday, 25th July 2010.

  • Time: 9am to 1 pm
  • Location: Taman Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Selangor

I’ll be around, signing autographs for those who recognize me. Don’t expect my John Hancock to sell well on eBay, or lelong. com.my. I suppose I could get impromptu dunked if anyone wants to pay high enough… contact the organisers, ask to dunk Councilman Wata.

IEM Shout Out – Value Based Maintenance

This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division will hosting a course on the 3rd and 4th August, 2010. For a change, it will be held at Auditorium Tan Sri Prof. Chin Fung Kee, Wisma IEM, Petaling Jaya.  The course is worth 13 CPD or PDP points.

Course content is:

  • Maintenance as support to business objectives
  • Maintenance Environment and Perceptions
  • Maintenance Practices: from Reactive to Predictive Methodology
  • The Proactive Maintenance Team
  • Identifying Value Propositions
  • It’s not about maintenance, it’s about improvement
  • Value Base Maintenance in overall asset life issues

The course will be presented by Ir. Al-Khairi Mohd Daud. Ir. Al-Khairi had a varied experienced in project, engineering, maintenance and reliabilityexperience from various industries.

IEM Shout Out – Fitness for Service Course

This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division will hosting a course on the 2nd and 3rd June, 2010. You’ll get to visit TNB’s Integrated Learning Solution – ILSAS at Bangi in addition to getting 13 CPD or PDP points.

The FFS course is designed in accordance with the FFS assessment techniques of API 579-1/ASME FFS 2007. The course will provide the knowledge and background of the following:

  1. Philosophy of FFS
  2. Introduction to FFS assessment standard
  3. FFS assessment techniques for different type of damages
  4. Damage mechanism identification
  5. Non destructive testing (NDT) techniques for damage detection
  6. Effect of NDT results to FFS assessment

IEM – Photosynth UPM

I was invited to give a talk at Process and Food Department, Engineering Faculty, Universiti Putra Malaysia (Universiti Pertanian Malaysia to us old blokes).  I took the opportunity to make a Photosynth view of the Admin Building‘s main foyer.

The talk was a recruitment drive to promote the IEM‘s activities and benefits if you join as a Graduate Member. I also gave them a 20 minute intro job hunting and interview techniques.

I’d be most pleased to give more talks on this topic under the auspices of the IEM. Come on, you know you want to invite me.

IEM Shout Out – Risk Based Inspection

This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division will hosting a course on the 4th and 5th May, 2010. You’ll get to visit TNB’s Intergrated Learning Solution – ILSAS at Bangi in addition to getting 13 CPD points.

The RBI course is designed in accordance with the American Petroleum Institute (API) based resource document 581, API recommended practice (RP) 580.

The Speaker, Ian Partridge, is TWI Ltd’s Principal Project Leader, Equipment Risk Consulting  – Conducting Life Assessment, Failure Investigations, Fitness-for-Service Assessments for various Oil and Gas and Power Generation installations. Development and  validation of Fitness-For-Service procedures for international standards and best practice guidance.

Representation of TWI Ltd. on various international standards committees. Assessments include creep, general corrosion, locally thinned areas, pitting corrosion, fatigue,fracture, blisters and laminations.
